Wycombe Wanderers and Derby County play out entertaining draw at Adams Park

Derby County

The recent match between Wycombe and Derby finished with a goalless scoreline. Interestingly, this is the first time in six successive matches that Wycombe has been able to keep a clean sheet against Derby, which is quite an achievement.

The team from Wycombe Wanderers played their first match following their disappointing defeat in the EFL Trophy final against Peterborough United. They ended up with a scoreless draw at their home stadium, Adams Park, against Derby County, who are currently vying for promotion.

Matt Bloomfield's team put up a strong defense and prevented the former Premier League team from scoring during the club's second-to-last home game of the season.

Furthermore, the Rams journeyed to Buckinghamshire with the awareness that they needed to secure a favorable outcome against the Chairboys in order to widen the distance between themselves and Bolton Wanderers, who are currently in third place, with only three games remaining.

Wycombe impressively overcame their sadness from the Wembley match and began their clash with the Rams strongly. However, the possibility of a disastrous start arose when Ryan Tafazolli's header almost passed Franco Ravizzoli in the Wycombe net within the first two minutes.

The Derby team launched several attacks on the Wycombe goal in rapid succession.

Initially, Corey Blackett-Taylor was unable to score when he had an open chance from a Conor Washington pass within the first 6 minutes. Shortly after, Washington also had an opportunity to score, but his attempt was stopped by Jack Grimmer while inside the penalty box 10 minutes later.

Nathaniel Mendez-Laing's corner kick almost went in, but Ravizzoli saved it by tipping it over the goal.

Wycombe had several opportunities to score but none were challenging enough to test Joe Wildsmith, the goalkeeper for the Rams.

The single attempt that he had to block was made by Richard Kone during the middle of the half.

Instead, Bez Lubala, Kieran Sadlier, Dale Taylor, and Matt Butcher missed the target with their attempts.

As the game reached its final moments, the tension was high with both teams pushing for a win. Joe Low and Gideon Kodua had some great opportunities for Wycombe, while Conor Hourihane and James Collins also attempted to secure a lead for Derby in the last 15 minutes.

The Wanderers were determined to score a winning goal and even brought on Sam Vokes towards the end of the game. The Chairboys believed that they had already won the match.

As the clock was ticking down, goalkeeper Wildsmith made a mistake and slipped, giving an opportunity to Vokes to score easily. However, Wildsmith quickly rectified his error by using his head to clear the ball while lying on the ground.

Wycombe could have won the game in an unbelievable manner, while Derby would have suffered a tough loss.

The outcome signifies that the Rams remain in the second position, however, they have played one extra game compared to Bolton who are in third place. On the other hand, Wanderers have managed to move up to the 14th spot.

The Chairboys require just a couple of extra points to ensure they are out of danger of being relegated.

Wycombe's next match is scheduled against Shrewsbury Town on April 13th.
