Instagram's Worst Con Artist, ITV1, review: why did Belle Gibson fake cancer? For likes, of course

On Instagram, almost everyone is deceiving others to some extent. They share carefully selected photos that create an illusion of a flawless and ideal life. While I was dining at a pizzeria in Rome not too long ago, I witnessed several ladies posing outside the establishment, holding up their phones at a high angle, pretending to be joyful until the perfect shot was captured. After that, they would immediately lose the happy face and became worried about the outcome of the picture. They would then proceed to capture more shots until they were satisfied. The entire process seemed very unenjoyable.

Why did we choose this place? Simple - there was a beautiful wall of wisteria that was perfect for Instagram photos. Additionally, this restaurant is said to be a popular spot for Gwyneth Paltrow (although it's hard to believe she actually eats pizza).

ITV1's investigation into Instagram's most deceitful con artist uncovered an unparalleled level of deception. Belle Gibson, an Australian blogger, alleged that she had terminal brain cancer and only had a few weeks to live after being diagnosed with stage 4.

Despite all that has happened in the past few years, she now appears to be healthy and advocates for a "wellness" diet that has helped extend her lifespan without medical intervention. Join the application, purchase the cookbook, and experience the same positive effects. Many individuals dealing with cancer and searching for a ray of hope have become avid supporters of Gibson's teachings.

The companies were excited about making money. They made agreements with Penguin and Apple. Apple even paid for Gibson's trip to California and chose her app, The Whole Pantry, to be featured on their watch. Unfortunately, it was all untrue, and in 2015, reporters researched the story and discovered the deceit.

Why create a documentary after nine long years? It’s a unique opportunity to dive into a story of incredible boldness. The show features people who played a crucial role in investigating Gibson such as former friends, estranged family members and reporters. However, the most captivating part of the documentary is an interview that was conducted by an Australian presenter, Tara Brown, in 2015, which has only been partially included in this two-part series. Despite this, the interview and the entire show, leave the motive behind Gibson's actions unexplored. Was she a con artist, a sociopath, or was she suffering from mental health issues at the time? It is unclear if we will ever know the answer to this question.
