Tory plot to take sword to Sunak and make Mordaunt PM

According to reports, Tory MPs on the right side of the political spectrum are currently scheming to replace Rishi Sunak with Penny Mordaunt in a last-minute effort to avoid losing the upcoming general election. They seem to be feeling quite desperate about the situation.

It has been reported that they created a strategy titled "100 Days To Save Britain" which proposes Ms Mordaunt, most recognized for carrying out ceremonial duties with a sword during the coronation, to take up the position of Prime Minister.

According to reports, the party has come up with an exceptional plan because they are afraid of facing significant defeats during the upcoming local elections.

The Conservative Party is feeling uneasy due to the unexpected departure of one of their Members of Parliament, former Health Minister and current practicing General Practitioner, Dan Poulter, who has decided to switch his allegiance to the Labour Party.

According to reports, the insurgents are of the opinion that installing Ms Mordaunt as the leader and implementing a range of conservative policies on subjects such as taxation and immigration could prevent the Labour party from winning by a large margin in the upcoming election.

A member of the Conservative party that goes against the norm spoke to the Sunday Telegraph. The person said, "The truth is that we are up against an event that could result in the extinction of our party. It's up to other members to decide if they want to face the same consequences."

It is believed that Ms Mordaunt has dismissed any rumors about herself as false. Conservative members who are part of the majority suggest that moving further to the conservative side of the political spectrum may lead to even less support for the party.

Ms Mordaunt's critics in the Conservative party argue that while she received praise for her impressive manner at the coronation, she is deficient in political expertise.

Meanwhile, Mr Sunak has not completely dismissed the idea of holding a general election in July. He has hinted that he is open to the possibility of calling for an election during the summer months.

There are rumors that the Tories had poor results in the local elections, which may cause the prime minister to make a decision. However, he stated that he will not provide any additional information regarding the date of the upcoming election beyond what he has already shared.

He said before that it will occur during the latter part of 2024.

It is anticipated that the overall election will happen sometime between October and November, but there is growing conjecture that it could take place even earlier in July.

Grant Shapps cautioned conservative MPs who are trying to remove Mr. Sunak from his position and suggested that the Prime Minister should be allowed to continue his work without any interference.

The defence secretary stated that Mr. Sunak deserves the freedom to carry out his duties. According to Mr. Shapps, Mr. Sunak is performing admirably despite the challenging conditions.

If the upcoming mayoral and council elections on May 2 result in a big loss, the leader might face a challenge to his leadership. Alternatively, he may decide that holding the elections earlier would be a better option rather than continuing with a party that is not united.

A former health minister from the Conservative party has switched to Labour, which may cause more anxiety among uneasy Tory MPs and add more stress to the Prime Minister.

On Saturday, Mr. Poulter declared that he would be leaving the Conservative Party. He accused the party of neglecting the overburdened National Health Service, which he believed was no longer their main focus.

During an interview with Trevor Phillips on Sunday morning, Mr Sunak was questioned about the possibility of July being considered part of the latter half of 2024. This was recorded before Dr Poulter's unexpected switch to another party.

The head of the government stated: "I won't repeat myself, I've already been very direct with my words."

When asked numerous times if he was excluding July as an option, he replied, "I won't make that decision."

When Sir Trevor, the presenter, asked the Prime Minister when he should book his summer vacation, the Prime Minister responded that it holds greater significance beyond just an individual holiday. He emphasized that his prominent responsibility lies in fulfilling his role to benefit the country.

It is anticipated that the Tories will suffer a considerable loss of council seats in the upcoming election, losing approximately half of them in just under a week. Additionally, their two most prominent regional mayors are likely to face challenging competitions.

According to some experts, if West Midlands Mayor Andy Street and Tees Valley Mayor Ben Houchen are defeated, the Prime Minister may have to deal with a vote of no confidence. To trigger this vote, 52 Conservative MPs would be required.

On Friday, there were speculations going around Westminster that Mr. Sunak might initiate a campaign for elections on Monday to prevent any challenges from MPs who are dissatisfied, but Downing Street dismissed those rumors.

The election can be held on no later than January 28th, 2025.

This week, Mr Sunak made a series of statements to strengthen his position as Prime Minister. He announced new laws to seek asylum in Rwanda and promised to allocate 2.5% of the country's total economic output towards defence spending by the year 2030.

According to a survey conducted by BMG for the i newspaper, individuals who supported the Conservative party in the 2019 election but have since abandoned it are more inclined to vote for the Tories if there is a change in leadership.

Mr Sunak has refused to give a clear answer about the specific date of the general election, assuring the public that it will take place in the latter half of 2024. However, it is possible that the election could be postponed until as late as 28 January 2025, allowing the Prime Minister to delay the vote for up to eight additional months.

He has been accused of being a coward and of holding onto his position in Downing Street without proper authority after deciding not to hold the election on May 2nd, the same day as local elections throughout the country.

There is increasing talk that the Conservative party is in trouble as they are currently 21 points behind in the opinion polls. Multiple surveys suggest that they are on track for a major loss in the upcoming election, and there are concerns even for Mr. Sunak's chances of winning his own seat.
