Scheffler was leading by one shot at the start of the last day and managed to maintain a share of the lead throughout a tense Sunday, as a few players tried to overtake him but eventually failed during the final nine holes. This gave the world's number one player an advantage, allowing him to take control of the tournament.

The winner of the 2022 championship made a comeback after a sluggish beginning and managed to score three birdies consecutively around the halfway mark. Then, in the next four holes, he added three more birdies, which helped him finish on a remarkable score of four-under 68, resulting in an overall score of 11 under. This performance added to the champion's previous wins at the Arnold Palmer Invitational and The Players earlier this season.

Scheffler's Sunday To Remember

Scheffler had a tough start and had to make an effort to recover. He managed to score a birdie on the third hole after getting out of the sand trap. This put him in the lead for a brief moment. However, he hit his tee shot too far on the fourth hole, which resulted in him failing to make it to the green in time. As a result, he missed his chance to score and lost his lead.

Aberg scored birdies on two of his first seven holes, while Homa recovered from a bogey on the seventh hole by taking advantage of the next par-five. This momentarily created a four-way tie for first place when Scheffler managed to save par from the sand on the seventh hole.

Scheffler made a comeback and scored a shot at the following hole, which was equivalent to the birdie made by Morikawa, his fellow player. Morikawa lost his place as co-leader after struggling with two attempts while getting out of the sand bunker, leading to a double-bogey at the ninth hole.

Scheffler had a great start to the second nine, as he almost made a hole in one with his second shot and had an easy shot to make birdie. This increased his lead over Åberg. Meanwhile, the other players who were trying to catch up with Scheffler kept falling behind.

At the 11th hole, Morikawa, Homa, and Åberg all had a score of double-bogey. Additionally, Scheffler missed his 10-foot putt to save par, but still managed to increase his lead by three shots with seven holes left to play.

Scheffler made two putts on the par-five 13th hole and hit his approach very close to the hole on the next hole, resulting in two consecutive birdies, keeping him three shots ahead of Åberg. Åberg also gained shots on both holes. An excellent tee shot into the 16th hole, which is a par-three, set up another birdie, increasing Scheffler's lead.

Åberg managed to score pars on the final quartet of holes, securing the runner-up position, whereas Scheffler effectively took two strokes to complete the 17th hole, and executed a successful chip to put the ball in the hole on the last hole, thus bagging his ninth victory in less than two years on the PGA Tour, which left him feeling deeply moved.

What About Them?

Homa had a bogey at the second-to-last hole while Morikawa had to make a great shot out of the sand to only lose one stroke at the last hole. Morikawa's tee shot was way off and he had to hit out of the trees. Fleetwood finished tied for third place, but did not have any bogeys on the final day of the tournament.

In the last round, McIlroy made three birdies but also got four bogeys, which put him way behind the winner by 15 strokes. Woods, on the other hand, did not fare well on Saturday with a terrible score of 82 but did slightly better on the last day with a five-over 77, ending the week a disappointing 16 over.
