Hainault: What we know about London sword attack

Hainault

Observe: A male individual was spotted holding a sharp-edged weapon in an open area in Hainault.

As the busy rush hour of Tuesday morning along with the school drop-off began, a peaceful neighborhood in north-east London was abruptly filled with chaos and shrieks.

Within 30 minutes in Hainault, five individuals, including a 14-year-old boy, were assaulted.

After some time, law enforcement verified that the young individual had passed away as a result of the harm sustained.

People who were present at the time recorded a video of a man walking around the neighborhood with a sword similar to the ones used by Japanese samurais. Local inhabitants were advised to secure their doors and not open them for strangers.

Authorities have labeled the occurrence as "genuinely terrible" and are currently attempting to uncover the details surrounding the motive and execution of the assault.

This is what we have learned so far from individuals who were present at the location and observed it firsthand.

Hainault Attack: How It Happened?

People who saw what happened describe a scene of disorder in the local area from approximately 7:00am British Summer Time on Tuesday.

According to a source who spoke to PA news agency, there was an altercation between law enforcement and the individual in question in a narrow pathway.

They reported that during the disturbance, at least one individual had been stabbed. It was suggested that the victim could have been a female, as a woman's scream was heard followed by sounds of weeping.

Afterwards, I perceived a sound uttering words similar to 'she has been wounded in the facial area' or 'we require help' - essentially requesting medical aid.

Observation: Law enforcement officers chase a person who used a sword to stab someone as the individual attempts to scale rooftops of garages.

One more individual informed PA that they heard high-pitched screams and saw police officers confronting the suspect.

He kept going: "I gazed out of the rear window since the commotion was coming from that direction. I spotted a guy dressed in yellow leaping over some fences... I witnessed a male and female police officer - regular cops wearing short-sleeved shirts - pursue the culprit, yelling at him to drop whatever he was carrying."

According to Manpreet Singh's account to the BBC, he witnessed a collection of individuals, approximately five or six in number, attempting to protect themselves against an individual wielding a sword.

During an interview with Radio 5 Live, he mentioned that he observed an individual sprinting towards the Underground station in Hainault and then proceeding to enter a street on the opposite side, followed by an attempt to enter a residential property.

According to Mr Singh, the perpetrator was resisting the police when they tried to apprehend them and had to be subdued with a Taser.

In a particular recording, the culprit is observed peering into residences situated on Laing Close vicinity, wherein a stationary individual was also spotted lying on the street.

It seems that a member of the general public has luckily dodged a potentially dangerous situation. Video evidence shows the individual exiting a dwelling that the suspect had been peering into just moments before.

One can observe them peeking through the door and spotting the assailant, only to immediately retreat indoors.

A certain individual was standing just a few meters away from the perpetrator, yet the perpetrator did not spot them.

Someone else from the community recorded a video of the criminal being chased by the authorities as he scaled over fences, garages, and into people's backyards.

A male individual was yelling out to warn locals, urging them to secure their doors by shouting "lock your doors, everyone!"

According to law enforcement, a culprit was apprehended within 22 minutes of the initial emergency call placed by a civilian.

"What's Known About The Victims?"

A total of five people were affected - sadly, one of them has passed away.

A young teenager was fatally stabbed and passed away soon after being admitted to the hospital. The authorities haven't disclosed the identity of the 14-year-old victim yet, but his family is receiving assistance from the police team. Previously, the police mistakenly mentioned his age as 13 years old.

Police have reported that two individuals from the community are currently receiving medical care in a hospital, but their conditions are not thought to be severe enough to pose a risk to their lives.

The Metropolitan Police has announced that two of its officers have suffered injuries that are significant but not life-threatening, and surgery will be necessary to treat them.

Did Police Classify This As A Terror Attack?

The Metropolitan Police quickly announced that the event does not seem to be related to terrorism and added that it was not a specific attack.

The authorities have declared that they are not searching for additional individuals and the public is not in any current danger.

As of Tuesday's mid-morning, the place still has a considerable presence of law enforcement agencies.

Suspect: What's Known?

Currently, we have limited knowledge about the man who is 36 years old and is believed to have been part of this situation. The authorities have detained him and he is being held in police custody.

One video shows him yelling in the English language, but the sound quality is insufficient to accurately determine the exact words he is using.

More information about his real identity will only be publicly disclosed if he gets accused of committing a crime.

Where Was The Attack?

The event took place in Hainault, which is a suburban neighborhood within Ilford, located in the London Borough of Redbridge. Hainault is one of the areas that falls under Greater London and is situated approximately 14 miles (22.5km) away from the heart of the city.

We are aware that on Tuesday morning, just before 07:00 BST, people informed the authorities about a car that had crashed into a house situated on Thurlow Gardens. This street is residential and located across from the town's Underground rail station.

There is a video circulating of the perpetrator in Laing Close, which is a nearby residential area only 100 meters away. It seems that one of the victims was assaulted there as well.

It's not certain about the exact location of the attack on all five victims, whether it was just limited to Laing Close and Thurlow Gardens or if there were more people injured nearby.

There was a damaged car spotted in Laing Close, but it is uncertain whether the black vehicle was connected to the occurrence.
