Masters 2024: Scottie Scheffler emotional after winning second Green Jacket

Scottie Scheffler, who won the Masters tournament, shared that his intense drive to win would keep him pursuing further success. Though he also mentioned that golf might not be as important to him moving forward.

On Sunday, Scheffler won by four shots against the Swedish up-and-comer Ludvig Aberg at Augusta National.

From now until the upcoming US PGA Championship next month, Scheffler and his spouse are anticipating the arrival of their first infant.

"I have no plans to deliberately lose focus," said the person from the United States.

"I continue to have a passion for participating in competitions, relishing the feeling of triumph. On the other hand, the feeling of defeat is one I detest greatly."

When the 27-year-old won his second Green Jacket, his attention shifted away from golf. Instead, he became focused on his wife Meredith, who was heavily pregnant at the time and was back home in Texas.

The top-ranked player expressed that they are solely preoccupied with reaching their place of residence. They clarified that it holds significant meaning to them.

I plan to head back to my residence, revel in this triumph, and relish the arrival of my very first offspring. I can’t wait to commemorate this occasion with Meredith as I’ve been yearning for her company after a strenuous week.

Soon, my focus is going to shift towards my child and my partner. Thus, golf will not be my top priority anymore, possibly coming in at fourth instead. Moreover, he mentioned that his Christian belief played a significant role in his win.

Scheffler has emerged victorious in three of his recent four tournaments, claiming his second major win following his success at the 2022 Masters.

After securing the first Green Jacket victory, Scheffler has been dominating the world of golf, excelling in various aspects throughout 2023. However, his documented challenges with putting hindered his ability to transform numerous top-12 finishes into triumphs.

Things turned around for him in March when he claimed victory in the Arnold Palmer Invitational. He then went on to secure back-to-back wins in the Players Championship, a feat that had never been achieved before. He was able to maintain this impressive form at the Masters.

Scheffler's triumph has allowed him to match Tiger Woods, as the sole competitors who have attained victories in the both the Players title and the Masters during the identical season in the PGA Tour.

Ted Scott, who previously guided Bubba Watson to victory in 2012 and 2014, labeled Scheffler as exceptional in his own unique way.

Scott remarked that he wasn't aware of how skilled he was until he received the call. He added that the person in question doesn't seem to have any flaws.

Scheffler successfully fended off Aberg's attempt to become the first newcomer to win the Masters since Fuzzy Zoeller achieved this feat in 1979. He also triumphed over his fellow compatriots Collin Morikawa and Max Homa in the last round.

Aberg has rapidly become a top player in the sport, despite only becoming a pro just 10 months ago. During this time, he has managed to win events on both the PGA Tour and DP World Tour, and was instrumental in Europe's victory over the United States in the Ryder Cup held in Rome.

Astoundingly, he had never competed in a major tournament before.

The young adult managed to catch up with Scheffler for a brief moment when he made an amazing birdie putt at the ninth hole. However, his chances were ruined when he accidentally hit the ball into the water at the 11th hole.

Despite the setback of a double-bogey, he managed to bounce back and make birdies on the 13th and 14th holes. This helped him finish three strokes ahead of the golfers in third place.

Aberg stated that he was feeling highly anxious, even trembling slightly, when he stood on the first tee.

Although we were aware that landing in the water on the 11th hole was not the best scenario, we persevered and continued to play. Our objective, led by myself, my caddie Joe [Skovron], and our team, was to maintain focus and determination despite any obstacles. We place great emphasis on the importance of persisting through challenges and remaining committed to our game plan.

As someone who shares my current stance, the ultimate goal is to achieve the title of a major champion and become the top-ranked player across the globe. It's a dream that I share with many others in my field.

Since the day I started playing golf, I have noticed a consistent pattern. This week, I have come to realize that many of those things still hold true.

Scottie is an extraordinary athlete, and he has continuously displayed his prowess. He elevates our team's game and motivates you to strive for victory against him.
