Steve Evans quits Stevenage to take Rotherham job after Richardson sacked

Rotherham has given Steve Evans another chance to lead the team after dismissing Leam Richardson from his post.

On Wednesday morning, Richardson departed from his position as manager as a result of experiencing a defeat in 18 of the 24 games, causing the team to be relegated to League One. Shortly after, Evans was appointed as the new manager on a three-year contract following his resignation as the manager for Stevenage.

The ex-manager of Rotherham, Evans, who is 61, led the team from League Two to safety in the Championship during his tenure from 2012 to 2015. He has recently left Stevenage after managing them and taking them from the bottom of League Two and up to a position just outside of the playoffs in League One. It is improbable for them to land in a playoff spot unless there is a very unlikely series of events.

The chairman of Stevenage, Phil Wallace, expressed that although they didn't desire for this to happen, the compensation rules were established for a reason and occurrences like this are common in football. He added that both clubs managed the situation in an appropriate manner and they informed Steve that they would not obstruct his departure if the compensation agreement was fulfilled, especially since he has done a lot for their team. Phil Wallace conveyed that they will always be hospitable to Steve, as it was an honor working with him for the past two years.

When Evans comes back to Yorkshire, things will be different as the director of football, Rob Scott, will go back to being in charge of finding new players while Evans takes on the role of manager, instead of just a head coach.

According to Tony Stewart, the chairman of Rotherham, after having extensive discussions at the board level, they all came to the unanimous agreement that a shift in strategy was necessary to increase their chances of quickly returning to the Championship.

We have Steve and Paul Raynor as two people who comprehend the Rotherham United culture and are aware of what is required to construct a thriving team. They have achieved success at many other clubs, including our own club.
