Rotherham has selected Steve Evans again to be the head coach after dismissing Leam Richardson.

On Wednesday morning, Richardson departed from his position as manager of the Millers. His record showed that he lost 18 out of 24 games in charge, causing his team to be relegated to Sky Bet League One. After a few hours, Stevenage manager Evans was appointed as his successor, with a three-year contract.

Evans used to be in charge of the New York Stadium from 2012 to 2015. During this time, he led the team from League Two to being secure in the Championship.

He departs from Stevenage after achieving the feat of leading them from the lowest position in the League Two to a place just shy of qualifying for the League One playoffs.

The return of Evans marks a modification in the arrangement, where the football director Rob Scott took on the role of head of recruitment while the Scottish individual is now assuming the position of manager, instead of being only a head coach.

The leader of Rotherham United, Tony Stewart, expressed his immense pleasure in having Steve Evans and Paul Raynor return to the team. This message was conveyed on behalf of all members of the club.

We didn't make the decision to let Leam and Rob (as well as Kelly, the assistant manager) go easily. However, after many talks at the board level, we all agreed that we needed to change course in order to have the highest chance of returning to the Sky Bet Championship as soon as possible.

Steve and Paul are two people who are well aware of what it takes to establish a thriving team that embodies the Rotherham United ethos. They possess an extensive history of achievement at various clubs, including our very own.

Lastly, I want to express my appreciation to Leam Richardson and Rob Kelly for their hard work. It's needless to mention that they depart with the utmost support from all of us here at Rotherham United.

The ex-manager of Wigan took charge from Matt Taylor during December; however, he had an unpleasant time at the New York Stadium.

He was hired to revive the club in the third division, but he did not last till the end of the season. His assistant Kelly is also departing immediately.
