Club Statement: Steve Evans

Steve Evans

The Stevenage Football Club has officially announced that Steve Evans will no longer serve as First Team manager and will be heading to Rotherham United. His departure will take effect immediately.

After an agreement was made and payment was received, Evans leaves the Club after a little over two years. During his time there, Stevenage moved up from League Two to a respectable position in League One.

Last season, the 61-year-old was the leader of Stevenage's promotion to League One. This season, he has been managing a campaign that is close to entering the playoffs. Presently, the team is on 9th place in the rankings.

Mr. Phil Wallace, the Chairman stated that the outcome is not desirable; however, we have put in place measures for compensation because such unfortunate circumstances occur in football.

Both clubs dealt with the situation in a suitable way, even though the manner in which it occurred caught us off guard. We expressed to Steve that we appreciated everything he had done for our team and that we wouldn't prevent him from departing if the required compensation was provided.

As compared to two years ago, our club has undergone significant changes and we intend to begin scouting for new players for the upcoming season. This is aimed at ensuring that we continue to make strides in enhancing our performance both on and off the field.

As far as I am concerned, Steve is always welcome at The Lamex and it has been an honor to collaborate with him over the past two years.”

Paul Raynor is also departing the Club, and Alex Revell will be in control for the final two games.
