Next week, the UK will have a unique third bank holiday in a single month.

This year's spring bank holiday falls on 29 May. There was also a bank holiday in early May and one for the King's coronation.

On bank holidays, many services are reduced. Supermarkets close early, banks are shut, and post is also affected. These days off work are enjoyed by many, but it can be a challenge to get things done.

Monday Post: Yes Or No?

On bank holidays, Royal Mail won't get your post or give it to you. The company's statement tells us they do their jobs for most of the days, even on Saturdays. But they won't work on usual holidays and public ones.

If you post anything on the weekend, it won't arrive until Tuesday.

Post Office branches are closed on Monday. They will be open on Saturday 27 May. On Sundays, they are always closed.

Private companies like Amazon will make deliveries as usual on bank holidays.

What Is The Purpose Of Spring Bank Holiday?

The May bank holiday is also called the Whit Sunday. It is celebrated seven weeks after Easter. It was originally a day-off in the Christian calendar. In 2023, it will be the third May bank holiday.

The bank holiday date changed in 1971. It's now always on the last Monday of May.

There's a bank holiday coming up. It's different from May Day and August bank holidays. This one doesn't have a proper name. Most people call it the spring or late May bank holiday.

What Are The 2023 Bank Holidays Left?

Different parts of the UK have different bank holiday dates. England and Wales have the same ones. Scotland and Northern Ireland have their own special dates.

In Scotland, the summer bank holiday is in the beginning of August. It's different from the end of the month.

The Bank Holidays Act of 1871 made all four nations celebrate on the same date. Sir John Lubbock, a Liberal politician, introduced the act.

From 1965 onwards, the date for England, Wales, and Northern Ireland changed a few times. Eventually, in 1971, it settled on being at the end of August. This change was permanent.
