Sir Jeffrey, aged 61, has resigned from his position as party leader, while still holding the MP position for Lagan Valley. The resignation became effective immediately.

Gavin Robinson was given the position of temporary leader for the party.

What Are Jeffrey Donaldson's Accusations?

On Wednesday, he showed up in court at Newry Magistrates' Court to confront 11 accusations, which include one for rape, one for committing gross indecency towards a child, and nine charges of indecent assault.

His 58-year-old spouse is facing accusations of assisting and supporting his supposed misconduct.

As Sir Jeffrey arrived at the court entrance, there was an enormous crowd of journalists capturing his every move with their cameras. Some of them even hurled inquiries at him.

At the start of the hearing, the couple stood side by side inside the dock, with a custody officer keeping them apart.

They both rose to their feet upon hearing the accusations made against them.

They only uttered words to verify their identities and birthdates, and to acknowledge comprehension of the allegations.

In court, a detective sergeant stated that the authorities have reason to believe that both suspects can be linked to the accusations.

During the court hearing, Sir Jeffrey simply affirmed his identity, date of birth, and acknowledged his comprehension of the accusations.

Both accused individuals didn't have to declare a plea in their initial court hearing, which is standard procedure. They will be required to do so at a later point during the legal process.

The terms of the bail were subsequently talked about.

The duo is allowed to communicate but must steer clear of any individuals who are testifying for the prosecution.

Each of them was allowed to leave after paying £350 as bail.

The proceeding's next scheduled date is on May 22nd, but the defendants are not required to present themselves in court on that day.

The auditory examination carried on for a period of seven minutes.

The Donaldsons were escorted to the dock just a few moments before the start of the hearing, which was scheduled to begin at 10:40 AM British Summer Time.

They both had a short conversation with the officers responsible for the court's custody near them.

A law enforcement official positioned themselves between the two individuals in a relationship.

During the proceedings, Sir Jeffrey kept his gaze fixed ahead.

The little courtroom was full, with space for just 13 reporters on the media seats.

As the accusations were recited, the spouse united their hands, positioning them in front of their bodies.

The hearing was brief and did not disclose any particulars about the investigation.
