On Thursday morning, a bakery in London started offering doughnuts with the name "Sadiq Khan" on them. However, they had to remove them from the sales shortly after due to a misunderstanding about a particular order.

For quite some time, Dunn's bakery in Crouch End has been offering doughnuts that symbolize the top candidates in mayoral elections. This has become a lighthearted method of gauging public backing on election day.

Early on Thursday, a new item was available for purchase at the shop: iced doughnuts filled with Tiptree raspberry jam and decorated with an image of Mr Khan. These tasty treats could be purchased for the affordable price of £1.25.

However, the products were taken down from public view before noon, as explained by the shop's representative who stated that they were produced to meet a previously placed order and had been mistakenly placed on display by the employees.

The Standard has learned that if there are any Sadiq donuts left unclaimed, they may be sold to customers at a later time on Thursday.

It's unclear who made the special request for the doughnuts.

In contrast to past voting events, Dunn's did not offer any pastries for purchase that depicted Mr. Khan's opponents in the mayoral race.

In 2016, Mr Khan went to the shop to check how well his doughnuts were doing compared to those of his opponents, including Zac Goldsmith, Caroline Pidgeon, and Sian Berry, during his mayoral campaign.

He wrote a book called Breathe and in it, he explained how he went back to the bakery in 2021. This was during the time he was competing against opponent Shaun Bailey from the Tory party.

According to Mr. Khan, during the election day in 2016, he found out that Dunn's was holding a competition using doughnuts with the faces of the mayoral candidates on them. The doughnut which was sold the most would be declared as the winner.

I had to exert a lot of willpower to resist canceling Haringey's get-out-the-vote campaign that would dispatch numerous Labour supporters to purchase anthropomorphized Sadiq doughnuts. Fortunately, in 2021, to my delight, Sadiq doughnuts were available for purchase. This was yet another positive sign! It seemed like the doughnut that resembled me was gaining popularity.

On Thursday morning, Mr Khan went to Tooting to place his vote. He was not alone as he went with his wife, Saadiya, and their pet dog, Luna.

Ms Hall cast her vote at around 7am in Harrow, and she was joined by her daughter named Louise.

Over two million individuals residing in London are anticipated to participate in voting and the victor will be announced at City Hall around 10 in the evening on Saturday.
