What's The Scrappage Scheme?

The scrap program is a fund of £160 million that will be utilized to offer financial support to approved individuals who wish to dispose of or upgrade their vehicles that fail to meet the Ulez pollution regulations, and transition to more environmentally friendly methods of transportation.

Residents of London who own vehicles that do not meet the required standards are eligible to receive a maximum amount of:

Residents of London have the opportunity to claim a sum of £1,600 in exchange for their old car that is no longer in use, along with a complimentary Annual Bus & Tram Pass for adults.

Independent contractors and small businesses utilizing vans: £7,000 per each van (for a maximum of three vans)

Upgrading a car: six grand

Non-profit organizations located in London that possess a legal address and utilize a small bus: a sum of £9,000 for each individual vehicle (limited to a maximum of three).

Londoners with disabilities who utilize vehicles specially designed for wheelchair accessibility can receive a grant of £10,000.

How To Apply

To request a grant, complete a form available on the TfL website.

Before you can begin with the scheme, it is important to provide proof that your vehicle meets the criteria. TfL has set a target to handle applications within a span of 10 business days from the moment they are received.

You will receive an email notification informing you about your approval status.

Once your application is accepted, you will be required to dispose of your vehicle at an officially recognized facility. They will furnish you with a certificate confirming its destruction. You will be given a period of thirty days to properly dispose of your vehicle and present TfL with the necessary proof.

After TfL has confirmed this data, they will dispatch a check by mail.
