VE Day service held at Clacton's War Memorial

VE Day

On Clacton's waterfront, ex-servicemen and inhabitants celebrated VE Day, the occasion of the termination of the Second World War in Europe.

On Wednesday, 8 May at 11am, the War Memorial Gardens on Marine Parade West were the location of a VE Day service held by the Royal British Legion (RBL) with the backing of Tendring District Council (TDC).

The worship gathering was presided over by Reverend Mark Mulryne and TDC Chairman Dan Casey presented a scripture reading.

Casey, a councillor and the leader of Clacton RBL, expressed gratitude to those who were present at the event. The ceremony involved saying prayers, placing wreaths, and observing a moment of silence that lasted for two minutes.

He stated that it is crucial to honor and remember those who bravely sacrificed their lives while fighting to safeguard our liberties in the midst of the Second World War.

Given the current conflicts happening both in Europe and across the globe, this becomes a critical point to consider.

"We consistently see a great participation rate for Forces memorial ceremonies and functions in Clacton. Thank you to all who attended."

The head of Clacton RBL, Colin Sisson expressed gratitude to all the attendees of their VE Day service including the forces organizations, standard-bearers, and general public. He conveyed the message on behalf of the committee and members of the branch.
