Possible rewrite: Blog post by Holly Evans on May 9th, 2024 at 12:12: I am sharing my thoughts today on the current state of online privacy and security. In recent years, many people have become more aware of the risks and threats posed by hackers, cybercriminals, and data breaches. We have seen numerous incidents where personal information was stolen, leaked, or sold without consent, causing harm and distress to millions of individuals. To prevent such negative outcomes, we need to take steps to protect our digital identities and assets. This includes using strong passwords, encryption, two-factor authentication, and other tools and practices that can reduce the likelihood of unauthorized access and manipulation. It also means being cautious about what data we share online, who we trust with it, and how we respond to suspicious emails, messages, or requests. Furthermore, we should demand more transparency and accountability from the companies and organizations that collect and use our data. We need to know what they do with our information, how they secure it, and how they comply with relevant laws and ethical standards. We should also support initiatives that promote open, decentralized, and user-controlled technologies, such as blockchain, mesh networks, and peer-to-peer protocols. Ultimately, online privacy and security are not just technical issues, but social and political ones as well. We must engage in public debates, advocate for our rights and interests, and hold those in power accountable for their actions and policies. By doing so, we can create a safer, more empowering, and more democratic internet for everyone.
