Varada Sethu to join Doctor Who in role as second companion

Varada Sethu

It has been confirmed that Varada Sethu will become one of the two companions for Ncuti Gatwa's second series as the Doctor Who.

In the year 2025, there will be a new addition to the cast of the sci-fi show. She will be joined by Millie Gibson, a former actor from the popular soap Coronation Street. This announcement comes after much talk about the future of Ruby Sunday's character on the show.

Sethu, who has recently been featured in the popular Star Wars series Andor on Disney+, expressed his pride at being involved in the BBC's long-standing series.

She expressed her joy, stating that she feels extremely fortunate to be a member of the Whoniverse. Being welcomed with open arms and made to feel at home by the Doctor Who family is an honour she greatly values.

I couldn't have picked a better duo than Ncuti and Millie to accompany me on this exciting journey. It's an absolute blast!

Sethu, known for her roles in Jurassic World Dominion, Annika and Strike Back, was captured in a photograph released by the BBC on Friday during a table reading session with Gatwa and Gibson.

Russell T Davies, who takes on the roles of showrunner, executive producer, and writer, expressed his excitement over Varada's inclusion in the Tardis crew. He previously collaborated with her on a BBC production of A Midsummer Night's Dream.

At this moment, in the place where they are filming content that will be released in 2025, Ncuti, Millie, and Varada are working together and giving their best effort. They are fighting alongside each other because the situation is extremely important and they all have important roles to play.

Information regarding Sethu's persona is yet to be disclosed. Gatwa and Gibson were initially spotted together in last year's Christmas episode of the show, titled "The Church on Ruby Road."

Next month, their initial full TV series in their roles is expected to be broadcasted. Gibson had mentioned before that acting as the Doctor's companion was a long-awaited dream.

After being revealed as the Doctor's companion, she expressed her gratitude and disbelief, stating that she feels incredibly honored by the opportunity.

This is an amazing opportunity for me, and something I've always wanted. I will work hard to match the level set by those who came before me.

The popular TV show Doctor Who is set to make a comeback on May 11. It will first launch on BBC iPlayer and then air on BBC One later in the day.
