Manchester United’s Player Of The Year Is Bruno Fernandes

Bruno Fernandes

In Manchester, England on April 24th, Bruno Fernandes from Manchester United was seen jubilantly celebrating after successfully scoring a goal which brought the score up to 3-2 during the Premier League match with Sheffield United, held at Old Trafford stadium. The memorable moment was captured in a photograph by Ash Donelon, who snapped it for Manchester United's official images.

By the close of the previous season, Manchester United had a wealth of options to consider when deciding upon their player of the year.

Ultimately, it was Marcus Rashford who secured the championship and was awarded Manchester United's Sir Matt Busby Player of the Year. Rashford scored a remarkable 30 goals, which contributed to United's third-place finish in the Premier League and triumphant win of the Carabao Cup.

Rashford had to compete with some tough rivals, such as Lisandro Martinez and Casemiro, who recently joined the team and added stability to United's defence and midfield. Luke Shaw also had an outstanding season as a left-back player.

On the other hand, one year later, nearing the end of the current season, the list of potential replacements for Rashford is distressingly limited.

For a few months, many people agreed that Diogo Dalot was the top player for United. Despite being in excellent shape and performing well consistently, the fact that a right-back could be the team's best player is a reflection of their ongoing struggles.

Lately, Dalot's statements have been surpassed by his fellow national teammate Bruno Fernandes. The latter has successfully scored seven goals in his last six Premier League matches, displaying his significant impact and making him United's top performer during this season.

During the English FA Cup third round football match between Wigan Athletic and Manchester United at the DW Stadium in Wigan, north-west England on January 8, 2024, Portuguese midfielder Bruno Fernandes, wearing #08, celebrated with his teammate Diogo Dalot, #20, after scoring their second goal from a penalty spot. During a season filled with disappointment, United has unfortunately fallen out of the Champions League early on while also missing out on the chance to participate in the competition next year due to their poor position in the table, which will most likely be somewhere around sixth or seventh. Despite these struggles, Fernandes has been a shining light for the team, offering valuable and vital leadership as well as contributing with both crucial assists and goals.

Some people may have different opinions about the playmaker, and there are fans of other teams who dislike him. However, it's clear that without him, United would have had a much worse season. He's also helped them have a chance at winning a trophy.

It's not easy to picture Manchester United's team without Fernandes. One reason is because he has an outstanding track record and is present in almost every match. But the main reason is that he always brings something special to the game, whether it's a moment of brilliance, a pass that penetrates the defence, or an important goal.

Fernandes now holds the title of United's top scorer this season, having scored a total of 15 goals during Wednesday's 4-2 victory against Sheffield United.

He has accomplished some impressive feats on the pitch lately, such as scoring a game-clinching penalty against Nottingham Forest and an outstandingly executed volley to secure victory over Burnley. Additionally, he scored an intense last-minute game-winner against Fulham and even found the back of the net from near the halfway line in a match against Liverpool. Lastly, he played a vital role in securing a goal against Coventry City in the FA Cup semi-final at Wembley just last week.

In London, England on November 4th, Bruno Fernandes from Manchester United celebrated scoring their first goal of the Premier League match against Fulham FC at Craven Cottage. The moment was captured by photographer Bryn Lennon and the image shows Fernandes in a moment of triumph.

Fernandes is doing a great job providing assists with a total of 11 assists in all competitions. This has given him a fantastic total of 26 contributions towards goals so far this season. This number is even higher than other players like Martin Odegaard who has contributed to 20 goals, Kevin De Bruyne with 19, Bernardo Silva with 16, and James Maddison with 11.

In contrast to all the other players, Fernandes has achieved a remarkable feat while playing for a team that's having a difficult season, and is headed for the possibility of their worst performance ever in the Premier League.

Although Fernandes may have some flaws such as making impulsive decisions and being impatient, he tends to take on too much and tries to cover every area of the field. However, there is a valid explanation for why Erik ten Hag, the United manager, appointed him as captain for this season.

He is still a top performer on the field, displaying great leadership by never dodging accountability and persistently motivating his fellow players to persevere through matches.

During the win over Sheffield United, Ten Hag declared that the player demonstrated his exceptional leadership skills through his dynamic and efficient performance on both offensive and defensive transitions. Moreover, he constantly motivated his team. Hence, the player's efforts, conduct, and results are highly appreciated and satisfactory for the team.

During the event at Old Trafford on Wednesday evening, Fernandes proved his leadership abilities by taking Ethan Wheatley aside. Wheatley was the 18-year-old substitute who was debuting in the first team. Fernandes told him, "I only have nine minutes to get you a goal." Unfortunately, they were unable to achieve the goal. Nonetheless, it was evident that Fernandes can play selflessly and strives for the team's best interests.

There are numerous reasons that make Fernandes deserving of winning Manchester United's Player of the Year award for a third time. He has held a spot at Old Trafford since 2020.
