In a piece she wrote herself, Sophia Bush has revealed that she identifies as queer while sharing her experience surrounding her separation from her partner.

During 2023, the actor's private affairs became extremely notable when she separated from her husband, Grant Hughes, with whom she had been married for only a year. Besides, several months later, she was spotted having an association with Ashlyn Harris, a former US soccer player, who is also a woman.

Penning a personal piece for Glamour magazine, the 41-year-old One Tree Hill performer shared the tale of her separation and the process she underwent in coming to terms with her queer identity.

She expressed her dislike for the idea of coming out in 2024 and shared that she has always been aware that her sexuality is not black or white. She describes her sexuality as queer, and saying the word makes her happy and content.

Bush described how she went through difficult emotional and physical times when she came to accept that her relationship with Hughes was crumbling.

The performer from Chicago Police Department mentioned that she almost canceled her wedding scheduled for April 2022. Nonetheless, she opted to remain in the commitment and "work harder on being an excellent spouse."

I often repeated the common sayings that we are all familiar with: Maintaining relationships is difficult. Making a marriage work demands give and take. I am sure you are familiar with these sayings as well. However, despite everything, my partner and I went ahead with our decision to get married. We celebrated one of the most memorable wedding weekends of all time. Looking back, I have no regrets about any of it.

Bush shared that she went through a tough fertility journey due to struggles with getting pregnant. She also mentioned losing count of the number of times she had been lying on examination tables throughout the process.

She came to the realization that marrying her partner was not the right choice.

I experienced a seismic change within me. After six months of going through the fertility process, I had a strong feeling that I had made a wrong decision. However, it took some time for my mind and emotions to fully comprehend what my intuition had already informed me of.

Bush stated that the reason for moving from her home in the US to act in 2:22 A Ghost Story during the summer of 2023 in London was because of the current state of her marriage.

"I needed to leave our home and perform on stage," she expressed.

Although she enjoyed performing immensely, she became sick when half of the cast became infected with Covid-19. This resulted in a severe health crisis for her as she faced challenges during her recovery.

I stayed in the hospital for several nights where they gave me lots of fluids, did heart tests, and monitored my organs closely. My body was clearly sending me a message that I needed to pay attention to.

Bush revealed that when she withdrew from the show, she acknowledged that her marriage had ended and everything fell apart all at once.

During the time when she went through the break-up, she mentioned that she had a group of female acquaintances by her side for emotional support. However, it came as a surprise to her when she realized that she had developed romantic feelings for her pal Harris, who happens to be a soccer athlete that she crossed paths with last year.

Bush expressed surprise in discovering a romantic connection within the support system. He struggled to articulate his feelings but ultimately stated that he had been oblivious to the possibility until it presented itself.

I only realized that we have strong emotional connections and share similar thoughts when our trusted support group members mentioned how we complete one another's phrases or exhibit similar reactions to various occurrences.

Eventually, Bush found the bravery to request Harris to have a private conversation regarding their emotions. They ended up having a dinner that lasted for four hours and Bush described it as "one of the most bizarre occurrences I have ever had in my life."

Bush stated that during the period when she was coming to terms with her sexuality, harmful and unkind gossip started spreading about her separation from her spouse and her connection with Harris.

Almost immediately after I began to comprehend my surroundings, the internet gossip machine started to produce some of the most horrendous comments. False statements and aggressive intimidations were prevalent.

According to Bush, the notion that she abandoned her marriage for a wild and emotional affair is untrue.

Those individuals who claimed that I ended my relationship with my ex due to the sudden realization that I am attracted to women, are incorrect. My partners have been aware of my sexual preferences for just as long as I have, therefore that is not the reason behind the breakup. My apologies for any confusion.

According to Bush, she feels very comfortable and welcomed in the LGBTQ+ community.

She expressed her realization that the discussion they were having was happening during a period that has witnessed the most violent and severe assaults on the LGBTQIA+ community in recent times.

In 2023, state legislatures introduced over 500 bills that were against the LGBTQIA+ community. As a result, it is important for me to show respect and recognition towards the act of coming out.

I have observed immense levels of security, admiration, and affection in the queer society throughout my life as an advocate, leading me to feel a sense of belongingness and comfort as I explored my own identity.
