Appearing in ITV's latest thriller Red Eye, the actor discussed his most prominent role yet - that of Thorin Oakenshield in The Hobbit movie trilogy - in an interview with Radio Times magazine. He opened up about being scared during filming, admitting to worrying that he wasn't the right person for the job.

When asked if he has ever experienced surreal moments during his career, Armitage shared a memorable experience. He recalled arriving in New Zealand to film The Hobbit and feeling uncertain about his position. Armitage even refrained from unpacking, believing that he would be fired and sent back home due to a casting mistake.

My younger self, at nine years old, could not have fathomed that I would be the lead actor in the movies after reading the books.

In this blog post, we discuss the character of Thorin Oakenshield as portrayed by Richard Armitage in the movie The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug, which was produced by Warner Bros.

Dr. Matthew Nolan, portrayed by Armitage, gets arrested upon his arrival in the UK for allegedly killing a woman while on a business trip to China. This is the plot of the movie Red Eye.

As he returns to China, accompanied by police officer DC Hana Li (played by Jing Lusi), it seems that there is a bigger plan happening. Many things happen during the flight that suggest this.

Armitage shared with RadioTimes.com what caught his interest in the character, mentioning that as a doctor, there's a natural inclination to trust him since he's meant to abide by the Hippocratic Oath and refrain from causing harm.

Thus, I find the allegation of committing murder and deserting the victim's body as unjust.

He went on to say that he usually would have created a life story about the man, but he deliberately did not. Instead, he concentrated on the man's current profession. His intention was to keep the man mysterious and intriguing.

I appreciated the concept of the audience oscillating between fully relying on him and harboring significant uncertainty about his true identity.

You can watch the complete Red Eye on ITVX. The Hobbit trilogy is also ready for streaming on Prime Video. To start, you can join a free 30-day test of Prime Video. After that, it's just £8.99 per month.
