Bryson DeChambeau atop Masters leaderboard in suspended first round

The first round of the Masters was interrupted, but Bryson DeChambeau managed to take the lead according to an article on NBC Sports Boston.

The first round of the Masters golf tournament was affected by the forces of nature.

The possibility of rain and thunderstorms caused a delay in starting the tee times for more than two hours. The afternoon groups were impacted by wind gusts that reached up to 40 miles per hour. Additionally, some were unable to complete their round before the sun went down.

On the opening day of the tournament, Bryson DeChambeau finished at 7-under 65 and claimed the top spot on the leaderboard. He started off well by securing birdies on the initial three holes, which gave him an early advantage. During the second half of the game, he further strengthened his position with a sequence of five birdies in six holes.

Scottie Scheffler, the top contender and current champion of the 2022 tournament, had previously won two out of the past three events of the PGA tour. He now trails behind the leader by only one stroke with a score of 6-under after competing in the Masters.

Nicolai Hojgaard is currently in the third position with a score of 5-under after completing 15 holes.

Tiger Woods, who had surgery on his ankle after the Masters last year, competed in his second tournament this year. He began the game with a birdie on the first hole and had 1-under by the 13th hole. Woods is among the top golfers who have won the most majors, including five triumphs at the Masters. He intends to make the cut for the 24th time in a row at the Masters, surpassing Gary Player and Fred Couples' record.

At the previous year's Masters, Woods struggled to qualify for the following rounds as he dealt with injuries to his ankle that resulted from a car accident in 2021. He managed to score a 1-over 73 in the second round, allowing him to barely make it past the cut and continue his streak. However, he was ultimately forced to withdraw during the third round due to a delay caused by rain.

Rory McIlroy is looking to secure his career grand slam by winning at Augusta. He managed to shoot 1-under. Meanwhile, Sergio Garcia and Brooks Koepka are tied at even par, Phil Mickelson and last year's Masters champion Jon Rahm are at 1-over, and Hideki Matsuyama is struggling at 4-over.

The beginning of the initial round will take place at 7:45 a.m. Eastern Time on Friday.
