S Club 7 star Hannah Spearritt and her family were made homeless before Christmas after they were forced out of their home by their landlord.
The singer revealed today that she spent the holiday in a friend's office, with partner Adam Thomas and their two children, as they only had two days to find a new place. The southwest London home they lived in would be going up for sale, leaving them in a "stressful" situation.
The 41 year-old was forced to reach out to pals for help, as one short term accommodation asked for a staggering £6,000 upfront.. While she was part of the successful 2000s pop group, reportedly raking in £150,000 a year singing their number one hits, Hannah claims her earnings didn't reflect what the group was bringing in, reports the Mirror.
On Sunday, Hannah told The Sun: “We were not on a good wage compared to the money being made. People think we must all be millionaires but sadly it’s just not true. It was what it was and we enjoyed ourselves at the time."
To cope, Hannah made the ordeal into a fun game for her two children, four year-old Taya and three year-old Tora. The family have since had to move to four different temporary accommodations in the last six months.
Spearritt was in the band alongside fellow singers Tina Barrett, Paul Cattermole, Jon Lee, Bradley McIntosh, Jo O'Meara and Rachel Stevens. S Club 7 - who were signed to Universal records - released four albums between 1999 and 2002, appeared in a string of TV shows and films, and unleashed 13 singles.
Their catalogue includes Number 1 hits Bring It All Back, Never Had a Dream Come True, Don’t Stop Moving and Have You Ever. But despite selling more than 10 million records worldwide, the band members reportedly pocketed only £150,000 a year.
Hannah added: “We may not have got what we deserved in comparison to how much we made. I won’t feel guilty for saying that, because we made millions and millions of pounds.
Hannah, at least, was smart with her earnings and was able to ensure her hard-earned money went to good use to secure her future. She explained: “Luckily I was very sensible. My dad looked after me and I bought property straight away. I was one of the lucky ones.”
