REPORT | Colchester United 1 Rovers 4

Doncaster Rovers

The Rovers managed to match the club's top score of consecutive victories by completely dominating Colchester United on the grounds of the Jobserve Community Stadium.

Luke Molyneux, Harrison Biggins, Tom Anderson, and Joe Ironside all scored goals to help Rovers come back from being behind and achieve their tenth consecutive league victory.

Rovers once again were put to the test to show their strength of character. They fell behind in the beginning of the match against a determined Colchester team who were fighting to avoid being relegated from League Two.

The team achieved great success by matching the heroic winning streak of the 1946/47 campaign, thus making history and passing with flying colors.

Grant McCann altered his lineup slightly for the match following their triumph over Barrow four days ago. Anderson and Biggins came back into the starting eleven.

The team in charge began the game with great energy and quickly got close to Rovers' players right from the start of the match.

In the ninth minute, Rovers had a difficult time getting rid of the ball and their opponents took advantage. Tom Hopper managed to break through the defence and sent a pass along the ground to Fevrier, who was waiting at the far end of the box. Fevrier scored a goal from this position.

Rovers' comeback was fantastic and they managed to equalize the score within just 14 minutes. Jamie Sterry passed the ball to Molyneux after a short free kick, and despite being on the wing, he cut inside and fired a powerful shot from 25 yards out that found the bottom corner of the net.

The game had a fast pace throughout, even after the exciting start. Noah Chilvers quickly chased after a ball that was free and made a shot towards the goal from far away. Thimothée Lo-Tutala did a good job of stopping the shot.

Suddenly, Rovers took the lead by surprise. The ball was passed quickly and skillfully around the box, until Molyneux managed to break free and run towards the goal line. From there, he passed the ball back to Biggins who was charging towards the goal. Without hesitating, Biggins kicked the ball high into the net and secured Rovers a lead in just 22 minutes.

Shortly after, Lo-Tutala made an impressive block by slapping away a powerful shot from John Akinde, who was in close range.

Sterry swiftly moved past the box and delivered a left-footed shot towards the bottom corner, but Sam Hornby managed to prevent the goal.

As the first half was about to end, Colchester had a great chance to score again. Fevrier connected with a cross from Chilvers, but unfortunately, he couldn't get the ball past Lo-Tutala.

The team in charge tried to score a goal to make the score even, and had more control of the ball in the beginning of the second part of the match.

However, Rovers handled the pressure excellently and prevented Colchester from having any real opportunities to score for most of the game.

In the game, it was the team led by McCann who consistently created more opportunities. One notable moment occurred when James Maxwell made a remarkable shot from the fringes of the box, prompting Hornby to make a save. Additionally, Hornby also managed to catch a header made by Owen Bailey.

Rovers increased their lead in the game when Hakeeb Adelakun put a free kick over the top and it was received by Anderson. Anderson then scored a goal with a side-foot volley at the close range.

Bradley Ihionvien, who was brought in as a replacement, took a powerful shot towards the goal post while Colchester put up a strong fight and showed no signs of giving up.

However, Rovers secured the victory at the 85-minute mark. Maxwell attempted a shot on goal that was deflected by the opposing team, hitting the post. But Ironside showed excellent reflexes and kicked the ball into the net, scoring his 19th league goal of the season.

Rovers featured a lineup that included Lo-Tutala, Sterry, Anderson, Wood, Maxwell, Craig (with Rowe coming on in the 76th minute), Molyneux (with Hurst replacing him in the 85th minute), Bailey, Biggins, Adelakun, and Ironside (with Waters substituted in during the 90th minute). The team had other players available on the bench, but they were not utilized during the match, including Jones, Olowu, Westbrooke, and Broadbent.
