In Bethnal Green, London, Charlie Edwards successfully defeated Georges Ory in a 10-round bantamweight fight with a unanimous decision, marking his comeback after 308 days of absence.

Edwards, a boxer with a record of 18-1 and 7 knockouts, used to hold the WBC flyweight title. He had only fought four times over the past five years before his latest match. Nevertheless, he was able to win the bout using his impressive boxing skills and all three judges awarded him with a unanimous decision of 98-92.

Edwards, a technician aged 31, resides in Portugal but is originally from Surrey. He had a strong start and overcame any nervousness by boxing defensively and utilizing his superior agility to balance the more forceful French opponent in the first round.

Ory, who has a record of 17 wins, 3 losses, and 1 draw with 2 knockout victories, is a skilled boxer who can switch between stances, making it hard for his opponents to predict his moves. He managed to do better in the second round, especially when he hit his opponent with two powerful left-hand punches.

Despite facing a formidable opponent in Edwards, he remained confident and maintained a strategic approach, consistently utilizing his jab and incorporating effective body shots. Ory, a seasoned fighter who had previously held the prestigious European title and was on a winning streak of six fights, relentlessly charged forward but was frequently met with well-executed counters from Edwards.

By the time it was the sixth round, the British boxer had gained confidence and took charge. He started to flaunt his skills, implying that he was confident and relaxed.

Throughout the latter portion of the competition, Edwards maintained a consistent approach and ultimately emerged as the undisputed victor when the final round concluded.

Edwards gave an impressive and controlled performance, proving that he still has more to offer in the world of boxing. He has potential to compete for both national and international titles, but first he needs to start by defeating opponents like Ory - which he successfully accomplished. This sets him on the right path towards his ultimate goal of returning to the global stage.

Later, Edwards and his promoter, Kalle Sauerland from Wasserman Boxing, spoke to Channel 5 with obvious signs of emotions.

Edwards, the elder brother of ex-IBF flyweight champ Sunny, expressed that the occasion was particularly significant to him. He revealed that he had encountered an array of challenges, including deceit and mistreatment from others. Edwards acknowledged the role of a higher power, thanking God for placing him on this journey and for helping him to develop as a person by overcoming such difficulties. Sunny was present as a member of his corner team.

I want to show my gratitude to my wife and daughter for supporting me through my athletic journey. There were times when I felt like giving up and not getting anything in return for my efforts. However, every time I looked at my family, I felt motivated to keep pushing forward. I realized that with their support and my hard work, I could regain my position in the sport. And today, I am proud to say that I have achieved my goal and am back where I belong.

Edwards is currently seeking to stay actively occupied in his endeavors.

"I've completed the first task, and when I finish the other two tasks, I'll tackle them all," he stated. "Thomas Essomba is currently the European champion, and Paul Butler has a fight coming up in just four weeks. You can't keep avoiding me indefinitely - it's time to face me and return the gold medal to my possession."
