The BBC's upcoming season of its science fiction series features a 19-year-old actor from Coronation Street as the comrade of Ncuti Gatwa's Doctor.

Fans of Doctor Who were thrilled by the remarkable performances of the two actors in the Christmas special. However, reports have surfaced claiming that Gibson will not be returning for Gatwa's second season. Apparently, he was spotted filming for the 2025 series alongside a new companion, Varada Sethu, who is known for their role in Andor. This news has come as a surprise to many fans.

The BBC recently revealed that they would not be replacing Gibson, but instead, Sethu will become the second companion to accompany Gatwa's Doctor in the upcoming series in 2025.

During a collective interview with Variety, Gibson commented on the rumors and referred to it as a "minor misconception".

"But I am currently involved in season two," she explained.

Gatwa added, "The doctor is determined to keep things fresh. That's the nature of the show, isn't it? With new actors joining and bringing their own unique perspectives."

The person in charge of producing and leading the show, Russell T Davies, who brought back the popular television series in 2005, commented on the unfortunate misinterpretation that occurred. He explained that it is a common issue when filming takes place in public.

Sethu has made a name for themselves through their impressive appearances in several popular films. They notably starred in the Star Wars Andor series, as well as Jurassic World Dominion and Now You See Me 2.

In her statement regarding the casting news, she expressed feeling incredibly fortunate to have been given the opportunity to play the role, stating that she feels like the most fortunate individual on the planet.

Being a part of the Whoniverse is truly a privilege, and I am extremely thankful to the entire Doctor Who crew, who feel more like a family, for graciously accepting me and making me feel comfortable. I am thrilled to have Ncuti and Millie as my teammates for this exciting journey, and we are having an absolute blast together!

Davies expressed his thoughts on Sethu in the following way: "I collaborated with Varada for the first time on a BBC project called A Midsummer Night’s Dream, and I'm delighted to have her join our team in the TARDIS. Currently, we are filming for 2025 and have Ncuti, Millie, and Varada working together in the studio. All three of them are crucial to the project since the risks are greater than ever before!"

Although Gatwa's revolutionary casting was widely acclaimed, there were inevitably those who disapproved. Gatwa's response to these detractors is straightforward: "If you don't like it, don't watch it. Switch off your television. Get outside and enjoy nature, for heaven's sake."

On the eleventh of May, Doctor Who is set to make a comeback.
