Newcastle United – Give us a song

Newcastle United

I absolutely adore mainstream music, starting from the old-timey singers, all the way to the rock and pop categories.

I have decided to compile a list of songs that have a special place in my heart as a fan of Newcastle United. These songs hold significant meaning for me as they evoke memories of specific periods and events in my journey as a fan.

Therefore, without any specific sequence...

Following the acquisition in 2021, I put forward The Farm's "Altogether Now" as a great track to unite us and combat the tangible and potentially fatal danger of demotion looming over us at St James' Park.

Back in the 1990s, I was motivated by this song and I can recall getting my friends to come along with me as a big group trailed behind Sir John Hall and Lady Mae on their way to London Road in Peterborough in 1992.

I had to catch the 1974 FA Cup Final screening at Wor Susan's wedding reception that took place at The Foxhunters located in Hillheads. I had a melancholic day just like all the other male members of the family who could not attend the live match at Wembley.

In 1974, there was a particular tune that never failed to lift my spirits - 'Jarrow Song' by Alan Price. It's a shame though that Pricey is a supporter of the Mackems.

Next on the list is the ultra punk anthem 'If the Kids are United' by Sham 69.

Back in the 1970s, when I was a young aspiring supporter of Newcastle United, things were fantastic. And even in the 1990s, my brothers, friends, and I would still have a great time bouncing around The Percy with my dad following a triumphant game led by Kevin Keegan.

The lyrics of 'I've got you under my Skin' by Sinatra always strike a chord.

You are deeply ingrained in me. You reside within the core of my being, to such an extent that you have become an integral part of me. I am consumed by your presence.

I believe many of us share the same sentiment regarding Newcastle United.

In May 1987, Starship’s hit single ‘Nothing’s gonna stop us Now’ reached the top spot on the UK music charts.

It was a time when a group of crazy individuals, including myself and some friends, made the decision to go to Roker Park. Our purpose was to witness the excitement of Sunderland being defeated and relegated to the Third Division by the powerful Gillingham team.

The police designated our group with a special section called 'The Gloaters'. The moniker has remained and some of us continue to gather to recall and honor our dearly departed leader, Simon Jones.

For many years at Gallowgate, "Hey Jude" by The Beatles has been a popular chant. The lyrics go "Na Na Na, Na Na Na Na, Na Na Na Na... Geordies" and it's a straightforward yet impactful chant that can be sung continuously, similar to how The Fab Four performed it.

When the Savior once again joined Newcastle United for a third time in January of 2008, I was still wedded.

I was enjoying my malt and listening to vinyl when I found out my favorite celebrity was coming back. The final song my spouse and I heard before going to sleep was 'Come back and Stay (For good this time)' by Paul Young.

After the passage of eight months, my heart suffered another painful blow.

Finally, but most definitely not less important, is the song 'Let's Work Together' by Canned Heat.

United we will be strong, but if we are separated we will fail. Let's go everyone, come together and collaborate to achieve our goals. Let's work as a team!

After a series of letdowns in the Champions League, Carabao Cup, and other league matches, these words carry importance for everyone.
