I have to laugh at what all these football ‘experts’ are now saying about Newcastle United

Newcastle United

It's wonderful to receive valuable advice from the "pros" following each game, that is, the Newcastle United supporters who inform Eddie Howe and the rest of us about the glaring mistakes he's making.

Observing United's defeat to Arsenal, I was fully aware of what the response would be.

Particularly, when it comes to the ardent supporters of Newcastle United, there are some personalities on YouTube and social media who crave attention.

Many people are saying that the 4-1 loss to Arsenal was shameful and not acceptable. They believe that this displays how Eddie Howe is consistently making poor decisions and that a change needs to be made.

When it comes to identifying what needs to be improved, many Newcastle United supporters and self-proclaimed specialists struggle. These individuals may have previously led the team to success in a video game, but their real-life analysis is lacking.

I am quite certain that these exact individuals were yelling at Eddie Howe, censuring him for his foolishness in continuously selecting Dan Burn. They declared that if only Tino Livramento was given a chance to play, we would emerge victorious in every match, as it was plain to see.

The fact of the matter is that these very same supporters of Newcastle United were shouting identical statements at Eddie Howe a few weeks ago, but this time it was aimed towards Eddie Howe and Kieran Trippier. They believed that if Tino played on the right side instead of the Captain, all problems would be resolved. All that was required was for Eddie Howe to succumb to the superior wisdom of these armchair or pub management connoisseurs.

While I acknowledge that there may be some issues with NUFC at the moment, I must express my disdain towards the excessive behavior of certain Newcastle United supporters. It's quite embarrassing.

In summary, Newcastle United has played eight games in the last 50 days. They have won four, drawn two, and lost two. The latest losses were against Arsenal, who are in the running for the title, and Manchester City, who are considered the best team in the world. Newcastle had even led against Manchester City until 16 minutes before the end, but then two players from Manchester City's bench scored, showcasing their superior skills. Unfortunately, Newcastle had no strong players on their bench to counteract this.

While it is true that Newcastle United has allowed a significant number of goals, they have also been able to score a greater amount. Specifically, in the previous eight games, they have scored a total of 19 goals and allowed 13 to be scored against them.

Before going into the Arsenal match, Eddie Howe's team had a winning streak of five games without a loss and had emerged victorious in their last four matches away from home.

I'm ashamed of the excessive desire for attention displayed by some members of the Newcastle United community.

When we witness our team performing poorly, we feel disheartened and annoyed, as we did last night. However, this doesn't mean we should react by throwing a tantrum and giving up.

Regarding the expected modifications that Eddie Howe had to make in the current situation, there aren't many options left after attempting the apparent and logical solution of placing 21-year-old Tino Livramento in an unusual position on the left and benching Dan Burn, which did not deliver the desired outcome. Therefore, the choices to improve the team's performance seem somewhat limited.

I'm currently witnessing certain Newcastle United supporters suggesting that Eddie Howe should have played both Tino Livramento and Dan Burn. They believe that employing a formation of three to five defenders with Tino and Trippier overlapping would have improved our defence and offence. However, I disagree with this suggestion as it would have resulted in NUFC having five defenders, which would have allowed Arsenal to attack even more. This would have given them more opportunities in both open play and set pieces, leading to more conceded goals in my opinion.

Newcastle United fans are quite fond of formations as they believe that the correct one can make all the difference. According to them, if Eddie Howe had used any formation other than 4-3-3, it would have led to a victory over Mikel Arteta's team and he would have been outsmarted on the sidelines. Some of the possible formations that they suggest are 5-3-2, 3-4-1-2, 3-5-2, 3-4-2-1, etc.

To be completely candid, it is quite distressing.

While certain formations may occasionally have an impact on a game, I believe they are typically inconsequential, as was the case in last night's match.

During the match against Arsenal, most of the Newcastle United players, including Alexander Isak, were mainly focused on defending for the first 35-40 minutes, resulting in the loss of the game. This was unavoidable regardless of which formation Eddie Howe had chosen. Arsenal had a strong game and kept high pressure, causing the home side to have little possession. When Newcastle did have possession, it was difficult for them to maintain it. They struggled to retain the ball, and when attempting to pass it to their striker, Isak, he was often up against three or more defenders, resulting in lost possession.

Whenever I've played football at a less competitive level, I can accurately recall how many times my teammates and I have exclaimed, "Check out their formation; we don't stand a chance!!!"

Instead, the focus would be on evaluating the skills and abilities of the opposing team's players.

Yesterday evening, all the Arsenal athletes outperformed those on the Newcastle United team. This is the fundamental reason why Newcastle lost, not due to an incorrect formation or, naturally, the wrong team choice.

I'm not implying that all of the 11 Arsenal players are better than those from Newcastle in the same positions. Bruno possesses similar skills to the midfielders from Arsenal, Gordon is quickly improving and could potentially be on par with Martinelli and Saka based on this season's performance. However, Isak, despite being a superior player to Havertz, wasn't at his best last night due to his most recent injury absence. As a striker, you typically need to touch the ball more than two or three times in a match to make an impact. Additionally, Trippier is just as talented as Ben White.

Sometimes, your team is only as strong as its weakest member, and regrettably this was apparent in the match against Arsenal. This could refer to the performance of specific players or their skill level.

During the midfield position, Bruno was making a great effort to avoid receiving his tenth yellow card which would result in a ban. However, defending is not his strongest skill. He was playing alongside Sean Longstaff and a young player who is only 17 years old. Despite his young age, the player has shown an unbelievable response, but as the band The Specials reminded us, it may be too much pressure for him to handle at such a young age.

The team had to face some tough competition in the midfield. Odegaard, who is considered one of the top midfielders in the Premier League, was one of their opponents. They also had to contend with Jorginho, who has won numerous trophies, including the Champions League and European Championships. And to top it off, they faced Declan Rice, who is widely seen as the best player in England and among the best in the world.

Being able to dominate the midfield is crucial in winning the game. Arsenal's midfield played exceptionally well in keeping possession, which posed a severe threat to the opposing team. If you can't keep up with their level of play, you're in for a difficult time.

In my opinion, the midfield and attack choices for Newcastle United are undoubtedly our most powerful. These include Isak, Joelinton, Willock, Barnes, Gordon, Wilson, Tonali, and Bruno.

Out of the group of eight, three people were not present and three others were still recovering from injuries. Only Gordon and Bruno seemed capable of performing at their best during last night's event. However, their success greatly depended on having the proper support from their teammates to help them reach their full potential.

The absence of Newcastle's players is not a justification, but rather a fact.

If all of Joelinton, Tonali, Bruno, Gordon, Willock, and Isak were healthy and ready to play yesterday, the game would have had a completely different outcome.

Arsenal could have emerged victorious, but the game would have been significantly harder for the hosts. Additionally, the difference in quality between our top players and their backups is often too noticeable, especially when facing skilled opponents under such conditions.

If you substitute one of the greatest keepers in the Premier League with a third option, place a newcomer who lacks experience as a left-back, and have a pair of central defenders who are not cooperating like they did in the previous season and earlier in the current one (before Botman's injury), then you're in a challenging situation.

Some Newcastle United supporters appear to be exaggerating the situation. They acted as if Eddie Howe had access to a completely healthy team last night, and that Championship Blackburn had achieved the same thing against NUFC. This was not the case, as NUFC was going up against one of the top teams in Europe with the best home record in the Premier League, aside from first-place Liverpool.

Feel upset, feel disappointed, you can even feel mad. Nevertheless, supporters of Newcastle United must maintain a realistic outlook.
