Resurfaced video may hold key as to why Bishop was attacked

Mar Mari Emmanuel

A bishop from the Assyrian Orthodox Church was attacked and injured during a live church service in Sydney. Prior to the incident, the bishop had expressed negative opinions about Islam in a video recording that was made four months ago.

During a preaching session at Christ The Good Shepherd Church in Wakeley located in the west of Sydney at about 7pm on Monday, Bishop Mar Mari Emmanuel was reportedly attacked by a 16-year-old boy who stabbed him several times at the altar area.

In another video showing the aftermath of the supposed terrorist attack, the young boy expressed in the Arabic language that he would not have come to the scene if his prophet was not insulted. He also stated that he would not have gotten involved if his religion was not threatened.

Attendees of the church mentioned that he frequently uttered the Islamic expression 'Allahu Akbar'.

It's possible that the teenager was talking about an assault on his religious leader, which may have been related to a video that the bishop participated in on the PBD podcast back in December. This podcast is hosted by an American broadcaster named Patrick Bet-David.

During the podcast, Bishop Emmanuel raised doubts about the Islamic principles concerning Jesus, whom he refers to as Isa, and expressed that "the truth may be uncomfortable."

During a sermon at Christ The Good Shepherd Church in Wakeley, located in the western suburbs of Sydney, Bishop Mar Mari Emmanuel was reportedly attacked by a 16-year-old boy who approached the altar and proceeded to stab him repeatedly. The incident occurred on Monday evening at around 7pm.

The person who is thought to have wielded a knife (as seen being restrained in the picture) has been identified by law enforcement as a supposed terrorist.

The holy Koran states that Isa, who is the son of Mary, ascended to Heaven while still alive and will return one day to pass judgement upon both the deceased and those who are currently alive.

If I inquire a follower of Islam "Who is the one who adjudicates?", they will respond with God.

"So, if I understand correctly, you're saying that Muhammad will be the judge. But isn't that God's role? Are you saying that Muhammad has taken over for God or that God has given him a break and let him take over?"

The religious leader stated that Isa is the messiah who is currently alive, as supported by the sacred text of the Koran.

I'd like to pose a question to you, my fellow Muslim. If you assert that Isa is a prophet, why is it that you acknowledge other prophets as well? This includes Moses and all the prophets mentioned in the Old Testament.

Why is it that Isa is the only Old Testament prophet who was called "The word of God," while none of the others were given this title?

Afterwards, Bishop Emmanuel discussed the nativity of Jesus to Mary and his divine status as the offspring of the Almighty.

The speaker posed a question regarding the birth of Jesus, as to why he was the only one born through a virgin birth while all other prophets and humans on earth were born of earthly parents.

His mother is from this world, but he doesn't have a father from this world. His father is the one who is in Heaven.

The bishop who speaks his mind stated that 'The primary reason why Muhammad didn't succeed is because he is deceased. According to their scripture ...

I am aware that sometimes the truth can be painful to hear. I am not trying to insult anyone, but rather to convey what is honest and factual. If what I say causes offense, then I do express regret, but I do not genuinely apologize.

Afterward, he informed his colleagues on the podcast that if you ever enter the gates of Heaven, you can be certain that neither Muhammad, Buddha, nor the Hindu deity Krishna will be there to welcome you. They simply won't be present.

There is only one person who is the way, the truth, and the life, and his name is Jesus Christ of Nazareth. He sacrificed his life for both you and me.

On Monday night, Bishop Emmanuel reportedly suffered an injury and promptly prayed for the person he believes was responsible for the incident.

The ambulance service of New South Wales reported that there were four people harmed in the event.

Following the assault, an enraged crowd of roughly 2,000 individuals gathered in the vicinity of the church, resulting in chaotic disturbances and law enforcement officials struggling to manage the situation.

A large group of people assembled outside Christ The Good Shepherd Church in Wakeley following the occurrence, which caused additional injuries.

According to the police, the disturbance required the assistance of over 100 law enforcement officers, and unfortunately, two of them were injured and had to be taken to the hospital.

On Tuesday morning, surgery was performed on both the bishop and the person accused of attacking him.

It is believed that the supposed adolescent terrorist cut off his own finger in the purported assault.

Mike Burgess, the head of ASIO, has stated that the recent attack may have been driven by religious motives. However, he also mentioned that the investigation is ongoing and they are exploring all possible leads.

During the podcast, Bishop Emmanuel (seen in the photo) challenged Islamic convictions regarding Jesus, whom he refers to as Isa, and remarked that 'the reality is hard to bear'.
