Report: Stags 2-1 Accringto

Mansfield Town

Mansfield Town achieved a magnificent promotion to League One after more than 20 years. They won a thrilling 2-1 home match against Accrington Stanley.

In a valiant manner, George Maris scored the first point just after two minutes by his shot from the side that bounced off Tommy Leigh.

Experienced midfielder Stephen Quinn scored the second goal for the Stags at a crucial moment during the game, 63 minutes in. Afterwards, Tommy Leigh managed to score a goal for the opposing team, but it was not enough to turn the game around.

Nigel Clough altered the lineup by five players since the previous game, which was a resounding triumph over MK Dons with a score of 4-1 on Saturday.

Stephen McLaughlin, George Maris, Stephen Quinn, Davis Keillor-Dunn and Tom Nichols took over the roles of George Williams, Elliott Hewitt, Ollie Clarke, Aaron Lewis and Will Swan in the starting line-up.

Filled with an enthusiastic and noisy vibe at One Call Stadium, Mansfield swiftly took the lead within just two minutes, further exciting their spirited supporters.

Maris took a corner kick very swiftly and Stephen Quinn, who was close by, passed the ball back to him. Maris then used the inside of his foot to send the ball towards the Accrington goal, but it hit defender Tommy Leigh and changed direction, ending up in the goal.

After three minutes, Maris tried to put Stags in a dominating position once again by aiming to pass the ball over Accrington's goalkeeper Radek Vitek from a far distance of 40 yards. Nonetheless, the ball went too high over the crossbar.

On the tenth minute mark, Mansfield persisted and skillfully sliced through Accrington once more.

Keillor-Dunn made a gentle pass behind the midfield line to find Hiram Boateng, who then made a curved shot just inside the box. Vitek made an outstanding save by pushing the ball away from the goalpost.

Even though the home team had a strong start, Accrington showed Mansfield their potential at the 21-minute mark.

A high ball was sent towards the Mansfield box and eventually reached Shaun Whalley. He then used his head to gently guide the ball towards Christy Pym, who easily caught it. The whole play happened seven yards away from the goal.

Mansfield managed to maintain possession of the ball for a considerable period, which brought a sense of tranquility to the action.

The game was going on smoothly until Lucas Akins made an excellent pass to Maris, who was running towards the back-post. Akins' pass was made from the right and it was a beautiful curved cross. Unfortunately, even though Maris reached the ball and had a great chance to score, he ended up shooting wide from a close range.

At the start of the second half, the hosts continued to hunt for another goal, just like they did at the end of the first half.

During the game, Keillor-Dunn made a move that threatened to score a goal. He hit the ball hard with his foot from outside the box and Vitek couldn't catch it. This happened just fifty minutes into the game. A minute later, Keillor-Dunn tried again and kicked the ball with his left foot from 20 yards away. This time, he didn't hit the mark and the ball went over the crossbar.

After thirteen minutes, the roof of One Call stadium was blown off as Quinn scored the second goal for Stags. It was a clever move by Keillor-Dunn on the left side as he set up the Irishman who attempted a close-range shot that was saved by Vitek. Despite this, Quinn quickly scrambled towards the rebound and managed to turn it into a goal, causing chaos and excitement among the audience.

After keeping a cool and calm attitude during the game, the Mansfield team became worried when Leigh's shot hit something and changed direction, fooling Pym and earning one point for Accrington at the 85-minute mark.

However, it was inconsequential since the sound of the referee's whistle signaling the end of the game led to a widespread display of joy and excitement.

The STAGS team consisted of Pym, Akins, Flint as captain, Bowery, McLaughlin, Reed, Maris, Quinn, Boateng, Keillor-Dunn and Nichols. Hewitt replaced Akins in the 84th minute, Gale came on for Maris in the 74th minute, Clarke substituted Quinn in the 67th minute, Lewis took Boateng's place in the same minute, and Swan replaced Keillor-Dunn also in the 74th minute.
