Bridget Jones is back: Zellweger will star in fourth film - but a key love interest won't return

The fourth installment of the Bridget Jones series will see Renee Zellweger and Hugh Grant making a comeback.

Zellweger, who has won the prestigious Oscar award twice, makes a comeback in the movie Bridget Jones: Mad About the Boy. Additionally, Grant will be seen once again playing the charmingly mischievous character of Daniel Cleaver.

Actress Emma Thompson, who played the role of Bridget's concerned doctor in the third movie, will make a comeback in the upcoming film, along with Hollywood actors Chiwetel Ejiofor from 12 Years A Slave and Leo Woodall from One Day, who will also be featured in the cast.

Colin Firth's role as Mark Darcy is not included in this upcoming project.

The English writer Helen Fielding made a statement before that she chose not to include Bridget's love story in the third book. She feared that Bridget would appear complacent after getting married.

The book titled "Bridget Jones: Mad About The Boy" features Bridget as a woman in her fifties who is a widow with two kids after her husband Mark passed away a while back. Yet, there is not any information disclosed yet regarding the movie's storyline and whether it will take inspiration from the novel.

The movie will hit theaters in the US on Valentine's Day in 2025, but there's no word yet on when it will be released in the UK.

The movie Bridget Jones's Diary, which came out in 2001, was very well received. It was based on the book of the same name from 1996. The movie starred Renee Zellweger, an American actress, playing a British woman in her 30s who enjoys drinking chardonnay and is single. Bridget is always worrying about her weight and looking for a partner.

Firth and Grant, both hailing from Britain, starred in the movie as two men vying for her affections.

In 2004, Bridget Jones: The Edge Of Reason was released as the sequel which continued the story in Thailand. Bridget Jones's Baby, the third part of the series, came out in 2016. It showcased Darcy, played by Firth, competing with the American billionaire matchmaker, Jack Qwant, portrayed by Patrick Dempsey, to win Bridget's heart.
