Four injured after runaway military horses bolted in central London

A video of horses that broke free and ran through the streets of central London has been recorded. A group of horses were spotted galloping down a busy street, causing chaos and disruption to traffic and pedestrians. The runaway animals appeared to have escaped from a local riding school. The incident caused quite a scene but luckily, no one was hurt. The horses were eventually caught by police and reportedly returned to the riding school. The cause of the runaway remains unclear, but it is believed that a gate was left open, allowing the horses to escape. This incident serves as a warning to all those responsible for the care and safety of animals. It is important to ensure that enclosures are properly secured and monitored to avoid any potential mishaps.

A group of five horses from the Household Cavalry ran through the middle of London and hit some cars, causing four people to be taken to the hospital.

The Army informed that due to startled horses during a drill in Belgravia, four soldiers were thrown off their mounts. Among them, there was a soldier who had the duty to handle two horses.

A video posted on social media captures the sight of two horses - one grey and the other black - galloping through Aldwych. Unfortunately, one of the horses had blood stains on its chest and legs.

The military spokesperson stated that the "horses designated for labor" had been found and taken back to their base.

According to Tony Bonsignore, who witnessed the incident, a horse crashed into a sightseeing bus. Luckily, none of the bus crew sustained any injuries.

During an incident on Buckingham Palace Road, a member of the armed forces was ejected from their horse. Additionally, one of the unsecured horses made contact with a parked taxi in front of the Clermont Hotel, resulting in significant damage to the vehicle's windows.

Doctors are evaluating the wounded military personnel while a veterinary professional tends to the needs of the horses.

The BBC has learned that the loud sounds made by builders in Belgravia made the horses of the Household Cavalry suddenly run and throw off their riders.

The London Ambulance Service has reported that four individuals received medical assistance from paramedics in various locations, namely Buckingham Palace Road, Belgrave Square, and at the intersection of Chancery Lane and Fleet Street. Following this, all four individuals were transported to a hospital for further treatment.

According to the blog post, three occurrences happened in a span of 10 minutes from 8:25 to 8:35 BST.

Tony Bonsignore stated that a blue canvas was employed as a member of the general public was given medical attention by paramedics.

The representative of the Army mentioned that some horses used for military purposes were accidentally set free while exercising as per their routine this morning.

All the horses have been found and taken back to the camp. Some of the people and horses have been hurt and are now getting the suitable medical treatment.

According to the BBC, the soldiers and horses were on a prolonged training exercise prior to a scheduled Major General's Inspection in Hyde Park on Thursday, as stated by the Army.

The representative mentioned that there were six soldiers and seven horses in the group. Out of them, four soldiers were thrown off their horses, and five horses got away and were roaming around in different parts of London.

Each military group participating in the ceremony of King's birthday is required to undergo an inspection conducted by a Major General beforehand.

A person was being treated by paramedics after an incident that was witnessed by BBC reporter Tony Bonsignore, as reported on BBC Radio London.

"They were attending to someone beyond the blue curtain. That individual has been transported via an ambulance," he stated.

While riding a bus near Victoria Station, Mr. Bonsignore witnessed an unexpected event. According to him, the entire surrounding area suddenly came to a halt. A horse collided with a tour bus directly behind them, causing damage to its windscreen, which was visible to all who witnessed the occurrence.

The floor had stains of blood too.

The horses were observed attempting to evade cars while galloping along the roads.

He said, "I witnessed a horse being guided away, and I couldn't tell if the horse was hurt or not."

The side of a van which functions as a taxi has been severely damaged and there are traces of blood on the ground along with indicators that horses were present behind it.

He went on to say that the horses would probably get scared. This area of London is always very busy, especially at 8:30 in the morning.

To be frank, the situation is quite bleak. Evidence of its severity can be observed on the nearby roads. It's an incredibly unusual occurrence.

Robbie, a taxi driver driving a black cab, revealed on BBC Radio London that he came extremely close to getting hit by the horses.

He expressed: "I was present near the Mall, close to Buckingham Palace, when I heard a lot of galloping noises. I turned around and witnessed a small group of three or four horses."

There were two people running quickly towards Trafalgar Square and one of them had blood on their white clothing.

He mentioned that he glanced at the mirror located at the back of the vehicle and noticed that they were approaching him from the rear. At that moment, he had two passengers seated at the back, which made him anxious about their safety.

The horses moved away from his vehicle, but he expressed concern about one of them appearing "severely hurt."

An unrestrained animal bumped into a taxi that was parked outside the Clermont Hotel, causing the windows to break into pieces.

Sean, a different chauffeur who happened to be in Blackfriars at the time, shared with BBC Radio London, "When I was exiting Victoria Station, there is a small path for taxi drivers that leads to Buckingham Palace Road.

As soon as the traffic signals changed to green, I proceeded to exit. Suddenly, I heard loud and speedy horse hooves approaching my way. As a result, I cautiously peeked out of the side street only to witness three riderless horses whizzing by me at a breakneck pace.

'Mounted Rider'

He mentioned that he moved slightly forward to ensure that it was safe to drive out. However, just then, another horse appeared from around the bend, carrying a rider, and nearly collided with his cab before quickly disappearing out of sight.

Before reaching Buckingham Palace, three horses ran in that direction. However, the taxi driver stated that they heard a noise resembling a car collision, leading them to think that one of the horses may have been hit.

As he drove away from Buckingham Palace Road, he observed one of the horse riders lying on his back and being looked after.

Two horses were spotted running through the heart of London, without riders. One of the horses appeared to be covered in blood.

He kept speaking about a parked Mercedes Vito car outside the Grosvenor Hotel, which had a dented side and blood stains all over it. Additionally, all the windows of the car were broken. He also mentioned a rider who had fallen on the ground at Belgrave Square.

He mentioned that he witnessed "a pair of horses carrying their riders and a female trooper from the cavalry standing and weeping, along with a black BMW that had its rear window and trunk damaged".

The drone team from the London Fire Brigade assisted in finding the animals.
