During the ceremony on BBC Radio 2, the host expressed her admiration for her mother's ability to love without conditions. She also acknowledged her mother's graceful presence and how it had a positive impact on everyone around her. The host also stated that her mother's smile was so bright that it could illuminate the stars and serve as a guide for the family.

Ball posted on social media to announce the passing of her mother. Along with a picture of herself when she was younger, she wrote the message: "Rest in peace, dear Mama."

In the beginning of March, Ball shared the news of her mother's sorrowful diagnosis and described the experience as extremely difficult. She went on to say that her mother is displaying immense bravery during this trying time.

The person hosting the show announced that Gaby Roslin would sometimes take over for her on The Zoe Ball Breakfast Show. This would allow her to be with her mother, who was eventually brought to a hospice.
