'We haven't won anything yet' - Skinner warns Man Utd

Women's FA Cup

After winning against Chelsea to reach the Women's FA Cup final, the manager of Manchester United, Marc Skinner, cautioned his team that they still haven't achieved anything.

On the 12th of May, Skinner's team will be playing against Tottenham at the national stadium.

Skinner stated that it is important to understand that they haven't achieved anything yet and the upcoming final would be extremely challenging.

Manchester United scored two goals thanks to Lucia Garcia and Rachel Williams, while Chelsea's only goal came from Lauren James.

Skinner mentioned: "Each player contributed, including the initial eleven and the players who joined later on. The exceptional fans also played a significant role. Everyone did their part."

As a coach, these are the moments that truly make all the hard work worth it. When you experience the enthusiastic spirit of a team such as Manchester United, it revitalizes you. The players played with great liveliness, and that is what ultimately led us to victory.

The start of the United game was extremely successful when they scored in the initial minute of the match due to an error made by Eve Perisset. Following this, Garcia managed to head in the ball from Leah Galton's pass.

United scored again with a header from Williams, putting them ahead 2-0 at the 23-minute mark. However, James, who previously played for United, managed to score for the Blues just before the end of the first half.

In the latter part of the game, Chelsea had control, however, Mary Earps did an admirable job in preventing goals. As a result, Manchester United kept their lead and secured their place in Wembley.

The team is going up against Tottenham, who they defeated 4-0 in an away game back in December. However, according to Skinner, that previous outcome will not affect the final result.

He also said: "Congratulations to Tottenham on reaching the final. We'll have a tough match and a battle in the final and I'd like to acknowledge their achievements."

Earps Shines Bright Despite England Disappointment

Earps has been named the champion of the BBC Sports Personality of the Year award in 2023. Her contribution played a big role in England's triumph at the European Championship in 2022 and taking her team to the final in the Women's World Cup last year.

However, the 31-year-old is now confronted with genuine rivals vying for her spot on the Lionesses squad, as Sarina Wiegman chose to select Chelsea's Hannah Hampton for the 2-0 win over the Republic of Ireland in a Euro 2025 qualifying match last Tuesday.

During the second period, Earps impressively prevented James' header from going into the top corner. Skinner compared this amazing save to one that David Seaman, a male goalkeeper from Arsenal, made during a FA Cup semi-final in 2003 to stop Paul Peschisolido from Sheffield United.

According to Skinner, Mary's motivation does not stem from disappointments, but rather from her desire to become the most exceptional goalkeeper she can be.

Her character is truly remarkable and possessing such a quality can make a significant difference in how you tackle challenges. She has the ability to bounce back from negative situations.

I was amazed by her save and it played a crucial role in our victory. She is undoubtedly the top goalkeeper for Manchester United, and while the choice is not mine, she is also my number one pick. Her exceptional skill between the posts is simply amazing.

"Club Trophy Win Means Everything"

In the previous season of WSL, United secured the second position while they are currently holding the fourth position in the ongoing season. Their chances of making it to the Champions League seem slim.

The Earps believed that this victory had the potential to result in a significant outcome.

During an interview with BBC Sport, she expressed that it's been a great burden as things haven't been going our way in the league throughout the year. This situation has proven to be a challenging one.

The girls were exceptional. Even though the game was unpleasant and dreadful, we were not concerned as we emerged victorious.

All of us were determined to win and make the fans proud, and I'm overjoyed that we were able to achieve that goal.

During a not so great season, winning a trophy with the club that I have been a part of for the past five seasons would mean everything to me.

This season, we haven't been exhibiting enough assertiveness during our games, but this particular performance showed the greatest amount of passion.

"We are aiming to win the trophy, but it won't come to us without hard work. Achieving it is going to be a tough challenge."
