Masters 2024: Bryson DeChambeau leads as Scottie Scheffler and Danny Willett chase

The Masters 2024

The top golfers on day one were Scottie Scheffler, Rory McIlroy, and Bryson DeChambeau, who made some incredible shots throughout the game.

At the golf tournament, DeChambeau currently leads with a score of seven under par, while Scheffler trails behind at six under par. Hojgaard is currently at five under par, with 15 holes played. Willett and Homa are both at four under par after 13 holes played. Fox, Davis, and Hatton are all at three under par after 14 holes played.

Some golfers are scoring better than others in the tournament. Reed has a score of 14 and Fleetwood has a score of 10. McIlroy, Hovland, Fitzpatrick, Smith, Lowry have scores of 16, while Woods has a score of 13. Rahm has a score of +1 and Spieth has a score of +2 at the end of their rounds.

Bryson DeChambeau is in the lead by a single point ahead of Scottie Scheffler after the first day of the Masters, which was cut short due to a storm.

The golfer from LIV completed seven strokes under par, however, the top-ranked player in the world, Scheffler, demonstrated a concerning proficiency in his flawless round of 66.

Danny Willett from England, who won in 2016, is currently playing in his first tournament since September 2023 and has a score of four under par.

Rory McIlroy's round came in at a 71 and Jon Rahm, the defending champion, scored a one-over 73. Tiger Woods was amongst the unfortunate group of 27 players whose rounds were interrupted by the setting sun.

The golfer who has won five times appeared to be in good condition, having scored one under par when the signal went off to finish the game. Nevertheless, as he has only participated in a single tournament this year and has only played 25 holes so far, the 48-year-old will have to play 23 more holes all by himself on Friday to finish the first and second rounds.

The game will restart at 07:50 in the morning according to the local time (12:50 in British Summer Time), and the next round will commence at 08:00.

Woods mentioned previously this week that he experiences regular pain from various injuries he has suffered recently. He also stated that he anticipates having a short break of about 20 to 30 minutes in the midst of each round.

He further mentioned that the transition from the first round to the second will go smoothly without any interruption. The physical state of the body is good.

People who arrived early at Augusta National had to wait for two and a half hours before they could commence their first round due to thunderstorms. However, once they started playing, they took advantage of the weather conditions that had caused the notoriously difficult Augusta National greens to slow down.

DeChambeau started off with three birdies in a row and then picked up even more momentum with five additional birdies in just six holes on the back nine. This gave him a strong lead by the time he made it to the clubhouse.

DeChambeau is in the lead after making three birdies in a row.

Nonetheless, the top-ranked player, Scheffler, appeared dominant as he executed a spectacular chip shot from the bunker to secure a birdie on the 12th hole. He also deftly placed his tee shot on the 16th hole, positioning it within three feet to prepare him for another impressive scoring opportunity.

Ryan Fox from New Zealand got off to an amazing beginning as he scored five points under for the first nine holes. However, things went downhill for him during the next nine holes, and he ended up four points behind the leader after losing two shots.

Matt Fitzpatrick, the US Open champion from England in 2022, managed to birdie the famous stretch of holes called Amen Corner consisting of the 11th, 12th and 13th. With this feat, he improved his score to four under par. However, in his final five holes, he unfortunately had three bogeys, which negatively impacted his overall performance resulting in a score of one-under 71.

Viktor Hovland, who is in the European Ryder Cup team, had a great start by scoring four under par in the first nine holes. However, his momentum was the slowed by a double bogey on the 10th hole, bringing his total score to 71.

Even though the wind was getting stronger as the day continued, Nicolai Hojgaard managed to reach five under after playing 15 holes. Max Homa was able to achieve four under after playing 13 holes, and Tyrrell Hatton from England reached three under with four holes left to play.

McIlroy Battles For Chance As Scheffler Waits

Following his victories at the Arnold Palmer Invitational and the Players Championship in March, Scheffler is considered the top contender to claim his second Masters championship.

Even though the 27-year-old American only won one major championship in 2022, he did remarkably well in nine out of his last 14 appearances, which resulted in him finishing in the top 10. Additionally, he performed the best out of all players last year by scoring 18 under par in the biggest events in golf.

Scheffler stated he planned to remain calm and look for opportunities to score on certain holes. The strong winds made it difficult to predict where the ball would go because it was changing direction frequently.

Based on a recent study, it was found that individuals who consume a balanced diet are less likely to develop chronic diseases such as diabetes, heart disease and cancer. The study revealed that a diet high in fruits, vegetables, whole grains, lean proteins and healthy fats can contribute to the prevention of chronic diseases. It was also stated that the consumption of processed foods, excessive amounts of sugar and saturated fats can increase the risk of developing such diseases. Having a balanced diet does not mean that one must eliminate certain foods completely, but rather, it is about moderation and ensuring that all food groups are included in the diet. Additionally, making small changes such as substituting unhealthy snacks with fruits or vegetables can make a significant difference. A healthy diet not only contributes to disease prevention, but it can also improve overall physical and mental health. It is recommended that individuals consult with a healthcare professional or a registered dietitian to establish a personalized diet plan that suits their needs and goals.

Scottie Scheffler has managed to complete 14 rounds out of the 32 rounds he has golfed this year, within only 66 shots or less.

Rory McIlroy, who is playing alongside, is trying to win his first Masters title which will make him complete golf's career Grand Slam. However, he had a rough beginning with two bogeys in the first three holes.

In the past, golfers from Northern Ireland have struggled on the first day of the Masters tournament, resulting in difficult challenges for them later on. This was often due to low scores, making it more challenging for them to bounce back and improve their performance over the weekend.

Nonetheless, he struggled during the front nine of his round, but he eventually regained his confidence on the back nine after birdying the 12th and 14th holes. Despite a minor setback with a bogey on the 17th, he managed to complete the round with a score below par, which he hasn't achieved since 2018.

He admitted that his performance was not perfect and a bit rough around the edges. He felt like he could have utilized his opportunities better. In particular, he missed out on a birdie opportunity on the 15th hole and made an error on the 16th hole by not making a relatively easy shot. He is worried that he may regret his mistakes in the last four holes.

Scottie is incredibly effective at everything he does - it's amazing how many rounds he plays without making a bogey, and that's what helps him win major tournaments.

"Nevertheless, the total score isn't too shabby, and there's still plenty of golf ahead."

DeChambeau's Statement, Willett Relishes Comeback

DeChambeau's solitary significant triumph happened during the 2020 US Open, when he heightened his physical mass and explored the limits of what was deemed acceptable in the realm of professional golfing.

In the past, he claimed that his skills were so impressive that Augusta National should be labeled as a "par-67" course just for him. Despite his claims, he has never dominated the course and his top ranking was a tie for 21st place as the best amateur player back in 2016.

Should he succeed this Sunday, he would attain the distinction of being the eighth player who has won both that accolade and the Green Jacket, putting him in the same league as Woods and Phil Mickelson.

He achieved a score of 65, which is his second-lowest performance in a major tournament. He combined his iconic long hits with competent shots around the greens.

He expressed that the challenge was tough. The importance of strategy in this location is often overlooked and individuals assume that you can simply hit the ball hard. However, you must position it accurately, which is exactly what I did.

In reference to the 67 remark, you see, I make mistakes just like everyone else. No one is faultless.

Danny Willett's score of 68 on the golf course is a rare achievement. It is only the second time he has shot below a score of 70 since he earned a score of 67 in the last round, beating Jordan Spieth to win the championship in 2016.

Willett's performance was incredibly impressive, especially considering the challenges he faced due to his injuries. In late September, he had to undergo surgery on his shoulder and the recovery process usually takes at least a year. However, he was able to return to the sport in just half that time.

On Monday, I was still hesitant about whether or not I would participate," revealed Willett, who skillfully sunk a 20-foot birdie putt on the 18th hole, bringing him within three strokes of the lead. He shared this information with Sky Sports.

"I've spent the last six months staring at my TV screen, watching golfers in action. Finally, I'm thrilled to be out and about again."

"UK Players Excel In Opening Games"

There are only six golfers from the UK participating in this week's tournament. However, five of them managed to secure a spot in the top 20 by the end of the first day of play as the sun was setting.

Hatton and Tommy Fleetwood got off to a good start alongside Willett, McIlroy, and Fitzpatrick.

Hatton was picking up speed in the game after scoring a birdie on the second hole. He also did great on the fifth hole by holing out from 50 yards for another birdie. However, he suffered a setback when he accidentally hit the water off the tee at the 12th, which made him drop a shot. But despite this, he managed to get another birdie by the end of the game. This also secured that he will start Friday game four points behind DeChambeau.

Similar to Hatton, Fleetwood hasn't won a major title yet. He played in the last group on the course and made three birdies consecutively towards the end of the back nine. However, he fell behind to two strokes under par after bogeying the 10th hole, which was his last hole of the day.

Justin Rose was able to wrap up his 18th hole once the hooter went off, which resulted in the English golfer achieving a 73 and concluding his round.
