Watkins should win player of the season - Martinez

Ollie Watkins

Emi Martinez, the keeper for Aston Villa, thinks that Ollie Watkins, a fellow teammate, deserves the title of Premier League's top player for the season.

Watkins is currently trailing behind Erling Haaland from Manchester City by just one goal in the competition for the highly coveted golden boot prize.

Martinez stated on Sky Sports that he believes the individual in question has the potential to be a highly skilled participant in their respective field.

Watkins has been at the forefront of Unai Emery's team, which has now secured the fourth spot with five games remaining. They are three points ahead of Tottenham, who have one game remaining to be played.

The number of goals he has scored this season is equal to the highest ever achieved by a player from Aston Villa in the era of the Premier League. Additionally, this player from England has also tied for being the top assister in the top division, with a total of 10 assists.

Martinez expressed that Ollie deserves to be awarded as the player of the season.

When you are part of a top-six team, people tend to give you more recognition, however, Ollie's scored 19 goals despite the limited opportunities he's had.

Even though Watkins downplayed Martinez's suggestion, there is one specific award that he's putting all his effort to obtain.

During an interview with BBC Match of the Day, he stated that as a forward player, he aims to achieve numerous goals.

To be honest, I'm aiming for it and putting all my efforts into supporting my team and scoring as much as I can for my teammates. Winning the golden boot is definitely one of my objectives.
