‘I was lost’: Ex-Scotland captain Stuart Hogg reveals rehab has sparked reset

Stuart Hogg, the ex-captain of Scotland, disclosed that his time in a rehabilitation center was beneficial in allowing him to "reset" after being arrested by the police for a case in the Scottish Borders.

Hogg, who holds the honor of being Scotland's top try scorer, decided to retire from playing rugby in 2023 before the Rugby World Cup commenced. He expressed his interest in pursuing a different occupation after spending a considerable amount of time in the sport, during which he was a part of three British and Irish Lions tours.

The blog post talks about a 31-year-old rugby player named Hogg who achieved great success while playing for Glasgow Warriors and Exeter Chiefs. However, on February 25th, he was detained at a property in his hometown of Hawick. According to a representative from the Police Scotland, Hogg has been accused of committing an offense and was allowed to leave after agreeing to appear at Jedburgh Sheriff Court at a future date. A report was also submitted to the Procurator Fiscal.

Last Sunday, Hogg shared a message on social media about his experience at the rehab center. He expressed his desire to understand himself better and express his feelings without criticism from others. Hogg admitted that he had been confused and in need of guidance, as well as some time away from the public eye to gather his thoughts. He had been worried about what people thought of him, how he came across and the effect he had on others. This caused him to constantly ruminate in his mind, which was not good for his well-being.

Being at a recovery facility gave me the opportunity to start anew, understand myself better, and express my emotions without any prejudices. Although it was challenging, I knew it was the best course of action. Owning up to my actions was the initial progress towards improvement. I acknowledge my faults and comprehend the reasons behind my past behavior.

Hogg mentioned, "Matters related to myself that are of a personal and confidential nature have been exposed to the world, and as a result, I have been severely affected. I have not been able to cope with it. The act of hurling insults at someone over the internet is unacceptable."

Taking a break has given me a new perspective on the world, helped me appreciate what I have, and boosted my enthusiasm for what lies ahead in the near, medium, and distant future.

I am grateful to all those who have reached out to me with their kind words, encouragement, and affection. Your unwavering support has been a ray of light for me during my bleakest moments, and I anticipate embarking on my future journey with each of you by my side.
