Stuart Hogg: Former Scotland captain reveals stay at rehab after recent arrest

Stuart Hogg

Stuart Hogg, a former captain of Scotland, shared that spending some time at a rehabilitation facility played a vital role in helping him "restart" after being accused of an incident in the Scottish Borders by the police.

Hogg, who is known for being Scotland's top try scorer of all time decided to retire from playing in 2023 just before the Rugby World Cup began. He expressed his wish for a new career after dedicating his time to the sport, during which he also went on three tours with the British and Irish Lions team.

The 31-year-old, who had a great time playing for both Glasgow Warriors and Exeter Chiefs, got apprehended on February 25 at a place in Hawick, which is his hometown.

According to a representative from Police Scotland, Hogg has been accused of wrongdoing and was let out on an agreement to show up in court at a future time in Jedburgh Sheriff Court. A detailed account has also been provided to the Procurator Fiscal.

Hogg took to social media last Sunday to share a personal update about his stay in a rehab facility. During his time there, his goal was to "gain self-awareness and express my emotions freely, without fear of criticism."

According to Hogg, he felt disoriented and required assistance, guidance, and a break from the attention to have the opportunity to step back, reflect, and contemplate things.

I used to worry a lot about what others think of me, how I was portraying myself, how I could influence them, and how I could get through the day. I spent most of my time lost in my thoughts, which wasn't good for my well-being.

By visiting a rehabilitation facility, I was given the opportunity to start anew, discover more about my own character and openly communicate my emotions without any criticism.

"It has been a challenging journey, but I knew it was necessary. Assuming responsibility was the initial phase towards progress. I acknowledge that I have committed errors and grasp the reasoning behind my actions."

Hogg included: "I have been greatly affected by the public exposure of my personal and private matters and the subsequent online harassment. I have been unable to cope with it. Online harassment is unacceptable.

Taking a break has provided me with a fresh perspective on the world, making me appreciate my blessings, and most importantly, feel enthusiastic about the present as well as future opportunities that lie ahead of me.

I want to express my gratitude to all those who have reached out to me, providing encouragement, companionship, and affection. Your unwavering support has been my guiding light during my toughest moments. I am excited to continue this journey with all of you by my side.
