Stuart Hogg has shared that his decision to enter a rehab facility helped him clear his mind, following his detainment and legal charges by the police, following an altercation in his hometown of Hawick, earlier this year.

On the 25th of February, the highest-scoring athlete in the history of Scotland was apprehended at a residence situated in the Scottish Borders. This individual had already retired from playing prior to the Rugby World Cup, which took place last year. Moreover, they had voiced their intention of pursuing a new profession.

On Sunday, Hogg shared a message on social media expressing his desire to attend rehab in order to "gain self-awareness and communicate my emotions freely, without facing criticism from others."

After he was detained, the 31-year-old was "set free with the obligation to show up at Jedburgh Sheriff Court on a future day," according to a statement from Police Scotland.

Hogg expressed that he felt disoriented and in need of assistance, guidance, and an escape from the public eye to gather his thoughts and relax.

I used to worry a lot about how people might perceive me, how I might be perceived, how my actions would affect them, and how I would make it through the day. I was constantly in my own head, which wasn't good for me.

Being in a rehab facility gave me an opportunity to start anew, explore my inner self and express my emotions without fear of criticism.

It hasn't been a walk in the park, but it was the correct course of action. Assuming responsibility was the initial move that led me to where I need to be. I acknowledge that I've committed errors and comprehend my reasoning behind acting how I did.

Hogg said: "I have been significantly affected by private and personal issues being exposed to the public and online harassment. I have not been able to handle it properly. It is unacceptable to experience any form of online abuse."

Taking a break from everything has given me a new perspective on the world. I've learned to appreciate what I do have and feel excited about the possibilities that lie ahead of me, whether they're immediate or far into the future.

I am grateful to all the people who have reached out to me and provided comfort, companionship, and affection. Your presence has helped me through the most difficult moments, and I am excited to face what lies ahead in your company.
