Graham Young from Birmingham Mail has provided information on the schedule for when West Midlands buses will return to their regular services now that the strike has been called off.

Bus drivers working in National Express West Midlands have been on strike for several days causing a lot of travel inconvenience for the region. However, the strike has now officially ended as more than 3,000 drivers voted for a 16.2 percent pay hike in a 48-hour ballot.

Starting from Sunday March 26, the sour protesting event will come to a close as the drivers have agreed to the payment agreement. The disruption in work began on Monday (March 20), when approximately 3,100 drivers from National Express went on strike due to a disagreement about their wages.

Birmingham, the Black Country, and Solihull have witnessed major disruptions in the travel sector lately, leading many travellers to seek alternative modes of transportation as multiple bus routes came to a halt. When will buses resume normal service?

As the ballot brought forth a favorable outcome, a limited service will be available for today and tomorrow, which is March 26 (Sunday). Subsequently, NX affirmed that a regular service will resume on the upcoming day, Monday, March 27.

The bus route 51 goes from Birmingham to Walsall through Great Barr and Perry Barr areas.

In the afternoon of March 25th, a representative from National Express West Midlands expressed satisfaction with the result of the drivers' vote to accept the proposal.

"We express our regrets to our valued customers and the local inhabitants for the troubles and difficulties that occurred during the past few weeks. We are content to have overcome these issues and to shift our focus towards providing a dependable bus service for our customers."

Last week, Unite Union reported that the median earnings at National Express for West Midlands' bus laborers had declined by six percent in actual value from 2018 to 2021, and the disparity had widened even more in 2022 due to the inflation surge. According to the statement, a bus operator's starting pay is £11.80 per hour, which rises to £14 after three years of employment.

Earlier, drivers refused an 'enhanced proposition' of a 14.3 percent hike in payment. As of now, Unite has not made any statements regarding the approval of today's payment agreement by drivers.
