Three people hurt and one arrested during 'major incident' at school in Ammanford in West Wales

A school in West Wales has experienced a "major incident" where three individuals have sustained injuries.

According to a statement released by Dyfed-Powys Police, Ysgol Dyffryn Aman located in Carmarthenshire has been shut down while their authorities investigate a reported incident involving a stabbing which occurred on Wednesday.

According to a member of the school board who is also a representative of the community council, it has been reported that the occurrence at hand was related to a violent act of using a pointed weapon to cut or thrust at someone.

It was reported that the individuals who were hurt were undergoing medical care.

The authorities have apprehended a single individual and have confirmed that they are not searching for any other individuals related to the occurrence.

The authorities are currently present at the location of the incident and the police department has stated that they are collaborating closely with both the educational institution and the local government council of Carmarthenshire.

Students were allowed to leave the educational institution around 3:20 pm, after being restricted since approximately 11 in the morning.

Someone speaking on behalf of us explained that they have knowledge about a video of the occurrence that is being shared on social media at present.

We kindly request that this be taken down to prevent disrespect towards the legal system and discomfort to those impacted.

The police have instructed individuals to refrain from making assumptions while they continue to examine the case.

A representative from Ysgol Dyffryn Aman stated that the individuals related to the harmed parties have been notified.

"We want to give confidence to parents and the community that the situation has been brought under control," they stated.

There are approximately 2,000 students enrolled at the inclusive school located in Ammanford town.

The authorities have not disclosed the ages of the individuals injured or the age of the individual who has been taken into custody.

At three o'clock in the afternoon, numerous guardians gathered outside the educational institution, anticipating the retrieval of their children.

According to Sky News, Rachel Young, who is a parent from the same school, said that her daughter and other students were confined inside the classroom.

"She's doing well, but they have confined them to the classroom," she reported.

She's clearly afraid. Even though she claims to be okay, we all know that when people say "I'm fine," it usually means the opposite. It's uncertain what will happen next, especially since we're unsure if the school will remain open.

I had hoped to arrive there, but the school informed me that no one was allowed to enter or exit. However, they didn't provide any additional information on the matter.

Council Member Rob James, who serves the Lliedi district, expressed his sympathy for the headteacher, educators, families, and students of Ysgol Dyffryn Aman following a serious occurrence that took place today.

I have communicated with the Carmarthenshire Council and will extend my assistance to the school amidst these trying circumstances.

The initial statement from Minister Vaughan Gething expressed his surprise upon learning of the incident, and emphasized the distressing impact it has had on the school, families, and wider community.

The news left Prime Minister Rishi Sunak feeling surprised and taken aback.

He expressed his gratitude towards the police and emergency services for their continuous efforts and extended his sympathies to everyone who has been impacted.

The leader of the UK's Labour party, Sir Keir Starmer, expressed discontent and condemned the recent happenings as "terrible news".

During a conversation with WalesOnline, Councillor Karen Davies, who is a governor of the school LEA, mentioned that she had been informed regarding a stabbing incident.

She informed the news website that she was informed about the arrest of someone and the stabbing of two staff members, however, she hasn't received any official report regarding the severity of the injuries.

"I am expressing my concern for those who were hurt and everyone present at the site. I am aware of the school's preparation for emergency situations, so I trust that the authorities have everything under control."

The head of the Welsh Conservative party, Andrew RT Davies, referred to the occurrence as "a violent one", expressing his sorrow and concern over the situation. He described it as "a deeply saddening and upsetting event".

Adam Price, who is a member of the Senedd and represents the constituency of Carmarthen East and Dinefwr, expressed that he is keeping the school's community in his thoughts while they await further updates.

Someone speaking on behalf of the Welsh Ambulance Service mentioned that they received a call just past 11:15 am regarding an occurrence happening on Margaret Street.

The spokesperson stated that they dispatched four ambulances for emergencies and the hazardous area response team to the location. Additionally, two high acuity response unit paramedics from Cymru and an operational manager provided backup to the crews.

The emergency medical Retrieval and Transfer Service provided advanced critical care support using two helicopters from the Wales Air Ambulance charity.

The Wales Air Ambulance stated that they were present at an occurrence in the area.

At 11:30am, we dispatched three teams specializing in critical care. The team from Dafen and Welshpool were sent by air, while the team from Cardiff was sent by land transportation.
