Late Salah penalty rescues Liverpool draw at Man Utd

Man United vs Liverpool

Mohamed Salah has made history by being the initial footballer to score in four successive Premier League games while playing away from home against Manchester United.

Liverpool missed out on the chance to regain their position at the top of the Premier League standings when they ended up with a draw in an exciting match against Manchester United, which took place at the historic Old Trafford stadium.

Coach Jurgen Klopp and his team must be wondering how they didn't manage to get back at their opponents for defeating them in the quarter-finals of the FA Cup just last month. They missed out on several opportunities, and even though they dominated the game for extended periods of time, they had to pay the consequences.

Liverpool dominated the first half with a whopping 15 shots on goal, but only managed to score once through Luis Diaz's strike. On the other hand, United didn't even get a shot on target. Their manager Erik ten Hag was grateful for their opponent's inability to convert their chances, and also for their goalkeeper Andre Onana making some crucial saves.

To everyone's surprise, United received a fortunate opportunity five minutes into the second half. This occurred because Liverpool defender Jarell Quansah made a mistake by giving the ball directly to Bruno Fernandes. Fernandes took advantage of this chance by scoring a goal from inside the centre circle, while goalkeeper Caoimhin Kelleher was off-guard.

After 67 minutes, Kobbie Mainoo managed to lead the team with a fantastic curved shot at the Stretford End, marking his first goal at home.

However, Liverpool managed to secure a draw, and it was the minimum result they deserved. This was achieved when Mohammed Salah successfully scored during the standard time's last six minutes. It was due to Aaron Wan-Bissaka being late with his lunge towards Harvey Elliott.

Liverpool is currently in second place in the standings, tied with Arsenal on goal difference, while Manchester City is one point behind in third place.

United's Conflicting Display

Manchester United managed to surprise and satisfy their supporters in equal measure with a display that showed extreme differences. They were able to secure a point even though it seemed impossible during the first half of the game.

The only thing that made them feel better after a first half where they were clearly beaten was that Liverpool hadn't completely taken the lead even though they were easily getting past the defense.

Onana made a fantastic save to stop Dominik Szoboszlai's shot. Szoboszlai missed two more great chances while Liverpool was constantly in United's half. Diaz scored a goal in the 23rd minute, but it wasn't a big enough reward. His finish was calm and collected after he was left unmarked.

The home team at Old Trafford felt relieved when the half-time whistle blew. However, just like in the exciting 4-3 FA Cup victory, United demonstrated that despite their imperfections, they can still be dangerous if given the opportunity.

The mistake from Quansah led to Fernandes taking advantage of the opportunity. He saw that Kelleher was out of position and scored an amazing goal.

Mainoo also gave a unique touch, but unfortunately Wan-Bissaka's reckless move on Elliott prevented United from rejoicing in yet another remarkable triumph against Liverpool.

The match had a varied performance with no clear indication if the manager, Ten Hag, under stress is making the right decisions. However, United can take comfort in the fact that they have negatively impacted Liverpool's attempt to reach their 20th league title- equalizing their own record.
