JK Rowling: Harry Potter stars would not be forgiven if they apologised to me

JK Rowling

JK Rowling hinted that she's unwilling to pardon Harry Potter actors who have expressed their disapproval of her beliefs concerning gender.

On a social media platform, she condemned famous individuals who publicly supported the process of children transitioning their gender. This seemed to be directed towards actors Daniel Radcliffe and Emma Watson from the Harry Potter film series.

Rowling blamed the duo for getting too close to a group that wants to weaken the rights that women have worked hard to achieve. She recommended that they make a public statement expressing regret to those negatively affected by transgender beliefs.

She made these statements after a string of comments about the Cass report, a significant investigation into the ways in which the NHS in England has failed to properly care for children dealing with gender-related problems.

Cass discovered that gender clinics have been influenced by ideology, instead of relying on usual medical practices. This has resulted in administering uncertain and possibly risky treatments to children who are in a susceptible position.

Rowling stated that Dr. Cass had revealed instances of "serious medical misconduct" where young individuals were used as "test subjects". She further condemned those who supported a belief system that resulted in young people experiencing "sterility and physical agony".

Don't Apologize To 'traumatized Detransitioners'

Radcliffe and Watson, who earned a lot of money by acting as Harry Potter and Hermione Granger in the movie series based on Rowling's books, have both expressed their disagreement with the author's opinion that individuals who were born male cannot truly become females.

Rowling recently replied to a social media user on a platform formerly known as Twitter. The user stated that they were anticipating an apology from Dan and Emma, believing that they will be forgiven. However, Rowling replied with a negative response, saying that it is not safe to assume forgiveness.

In other words, she said that celebrities who supported a movement that aimed to weaken the rights that women have worked hard to achieve, and who used their influential positions to endorse the idea of children transitioning, should not bother apologizing. Instead, those apologies should be directed towards individuals who have undergone distressing experiences after transitioning and women who depend on spaces solely designated for one gender.

At a conference in Canada on Wednesday, Boris Johnson, the ex-PM, expressed support for Rowling. According to him, Rowling is a contemporary saint who has been unfairly victimized.

Rowling was happy about the examination done by Dr Cass, in which it was stated that the youth are involved in a highly emotional conversation about gender and that the available data on gender care is not very convincing.

Rowling recently wrote multiple posts on Wednesday, questioning where people's self-preservation was, even if they didn't feel any shame for supporting what now appears to be a serious medical error. She also remarked that people should consider that they may have been incorrect about their stance.

The trend you joined with enthusiasm is moving rapidly towards a dangerous drop-off.

According to her, the report is not a success but instead reveals a tragic situation.

Rowling Denies Transphobic Allegations

From the end of 2019 onwards, there has been a lot of media attention focused on Rowling and her opinions related to matters concerning transgender individuals.

She has consistently refuted any accusations of being intolerant towards transgender individuals and has faced backlash from a portion of her supporters for her online content pertaining to the matter.

During June 2020, Radcliffe, known for his role as Harry Potter in the eight films, released a statement through The Trevor Project, a charity that focuses on preventing suicide among the LGBT community. In the statement, he affirmed the identity of transgender women and rejected any beliefs or statements that diminish their dignity.

He admitted that Rowling played a significant role in shaping his life path, but felt compelled to express his thoughts at present.

In November 2022, he spoke and expressed his thoughts saying, "I felt the need to speak up because after completing Harry Potter, I have met numerous young queer and trans individuals who identified with the series."

During this time, Watson, who played Hermione Granger in the Harry Potter movies, along with Rupert Grint, who was known for his portrayal of Ron Weasley, and Eddie Redmayne, who is the lead in J.K. Rowling's Fantastic Beasts films, all spoke out on the matter.

In June 2020, Watson took to Twitter to express her support for the trans community. Through a series of posts, she emphasized that trans people have the right to be themselves and live their lives without facing constant scrutiny or denial of their identity. Essentially, she affirmed their identities as valid and deserving of respect.

I would like all my followers who identify as transgender to understand that I along with many others from different parts of the globe recognize, value, and have affection for them based on the person they are.

Mr. Johnson expressed his thoughts on free speech in a video uploaded on the Cable Public Affairs Channel (CPAC) where he defended Rowling, stating that she was being unfairly criticized.

He spoke at the Canada Strong and Free Networking Conference and said that she has likely been the most influential person globally in motivating youths to read.

People are amazed at the things being said about her - they call her a modern saint.

Incidentally, it's quite remarkable that the notions she expresses about gender are actually beliefs that the majority of individuals keep hidden.

He stated that individuals lack the courage to express their opinions openly about the issue since they fear they will hurt someone's sentiments.
