Barcelona

On Friday (26 April), the Spanish Olympic Committee organized an event, where King Felipe VI of Spain referred to the 1992 Barcelona Olympic Games as a "fantastic achievement for everyone involved."

Today, I want to emphasize that our success is due to the hard work of many people who dedicated themselves to this cause years before. Because of their efforts, we were able to create a one-of-a-kind sports event, a wonderful social occasion, and a lasting impact.

During the Barcelona Games, the King proudly carried the flag for his country, and he remembered with great esteem the opportunity of leading the Spanish delegation during the Opening Ceremony.

The King also used the chance to gaze into the future and ponder on the Paris 2024 Olympic Games, which is approaching in less than 100 days.

According to him, Paris will be the gathering place for the grand Olympic and Paralympic community for a few weeks of competition, unity, and camaraderie, where countless human principles will be celebrated and upheld. He added that it is crucial to conserve, tend to, and boost these values.

The King highlighted the significance of those principles, and also acknowledged Barcelona's potential to bring about positive change on both a worldwide and community level.

The moment Barcelona extended an invitation to the whole world to become long-term companions, it stirred a strong feeling of satisfaction and honor throughout Spain.
