Hong Kong Morning Trading Session to Be Canceled Due to Typhoon -- Update

Hong Kong

The morning trading session in Hong Kong has been called off because of a government-issued typhoon warning, currently at signal No. 8.

Hong Kong Exchanges & Clearing stated on Friday that if a typhoon Signal No. 8 or higher, or any notification about severe weather, is still in effect at 9:00 a.m. (Hong Kong Time), the morning trading sessions for all markets will be called off.

According to the Hong Kong Observatory's official webpage, typhoon Saola is steadily approaching Hong Kong, and the weather is expected to worsen rapidly in the coming hours.

The forecast predicts intense rain showers and strong winds. The gale or storm signal number 8 will remain in effect throughout the majority of the day, as stated in the update.

According to HKEX, if the typhoon signal or any notice of severe weather conditions is lifted before midday, trading in securities and derivatives markets will recommence during the afternoon session.

If a typhoon signal No. 8 or any announcement of severe conditions continues to be issued at noon, all trading sessions will be suspended.
