Sydney stabbings: Police name attacker who killed six people as Joel Cauchi

Police have identified the perpetrator responsible for the fatal stabbing of six people in Sydney.

On Sunday, the NSW Police announced that an individual named Joel Cauchi, aged 40, was accountable for the assault that occurred on a bustling Sydney mall on Saturday afternoon. Following the incident, the police officer shot and killed Cauchi.

According to authorities, Cauchi had some unmentioned mental health problems and proceeded to carry out a knife assault at the Westfield Shopping Centre situated in Bondi Junction.

The authorities have spoken with Cauchi's family and are not considering the case to be linked to terrorism.

During a press conference, Anthony Cooke, who serves as the assistant police commissioner in NSW, informed journalists that they are currently trying to identify the culprit's profile. However, it's evident that mental health is a major factor in this case.

Ashlee Good, who had recently become a mother, was tragically identified as one of the six individuals who lost their lives in the knife attack.

According to reports, the woman who is 38 years old, allegedly tossed her infant to two men after sustaining injuries.

One of the gentlemen informed 9News that he was cradling the infant, and it appeared to be in a dire state.

The sibling said: "He assisted with holding the infant and attempting to apply pressure on both the baby and the mother."

We repeatedly shouted for assistance in obtaining garments, particularly shirts, to aid us in applying pressure and halting the infant's bleeding.

The sibling of the speaker chimed in, saying: "The floor was covered in a significant amount of blood. I sincerely wish that the infant is unharmed."

According to a report from ABC, Ms. Good's family gave a declaration expressing their shock and sadness over the loss of a remarkable woman who was a devoted mother, loving daughter and sister, supportive partner, cherished friend, and an exceptional human being with endless qualities. They are deeply grieving over this loss.

The Australian Pakistani National Association has revealed the identity of another victim, who goes by the name Faraz Tahir.

They described him as "brave" and stated he was a citizen of Pakistan who immigrated to Australia for employment.

Their statement conveyed the message of standing together in unity to provide comfort and well-wishes to the individuals suffering from this sorrowful turn of events.

During a press conference, Karen Webb, the police commissioner of New South Wales, announced that an individual in his thirties who was working as a security guard at the shopping mall had been slain in the assault.

The assault resulted in the loss of six people, comprising of one man and five women, whose ages ranged from 20 to 55. Additionally, twelve individuals were injured and are presently in the hospital, including the offspring of Ms. Good.
