On a typical Saturday afternoon, the appearance of Westfield Bondi Junction remained unchanged.

In the center, a large number of individuals were packed together, including groups of young people, parents with complainy children, and exhausted shoppers grabbing a quick cup of coffee in between stores.

Located only a few minutes away from Bondi Beach, one of Sydney's most well-known attractions, this shopping center is widely popular among Australians. It's so massive that it has its own train station.

However, at approximately 3:00 PM in the local time, the situation abruptly transformed into a terrifying scenario.

The customers were unable to assist as a woman attempted to protect her baby from a man armed with a knife. Several individuals fled in terror and wept, while others sought refuge in fitting rooms. The pavement in front of high-end shops was littered with corpses dripping with blood.

Footage from a surveillance camera revealed a brave person wielding a long stick attempting to fend off an attacker.

A footage displays the individual who is assumed to carry out the stabbing incident in a shopping center located in Sydney.

There have been six fatalities, including the assailant. In addition, eight individuals were transported to medical facilities with injuries, including a baby who is only nine months old.

There is not much information available about the event. Law enforcement reports that the murderer was a 40-year-old person who had a history with the police. However, they have not disclosed a reason for the violent outburst but have suggested that it was probably not related to terrorism.

For hours, a swarm of people gathered behind a barricade of police tape, their confusion illuminated by the flashing lights of ambulances.

Several individuals hug each other while others, with tears streaming down their face, confide in reporters that they believed their life was in danger. There are also those who remain stunned and say nothing as they sit on the pavement.

I came across a man named Johnny, aged 33. He informed me that he was in the middle of shopping at a store when he heard some disturbance from outside. He mentioned that he was only visiting from the Central Coast.

Upon glancing in the direction, he noticed a female and her infant being assaulted.

"He witnessed her being attacked with a sharp object. Everyone was caught off guard and didn't have any idea how to respond," he relays, with a look of intense surprise.

He noticed that there was possibly another person lying on the ground in close proximity.

Johnny reported that the lady was able to sprint towards the Tommy Hilfiger shop and once she was inside, the employees promptly secured the entrance.

A few of the other buyers were utilizing garments and items in their attempt to halt the flow of blood.

He claimed that he believed the baby had a small injury, but officials have now disclosed that it has received medical treatment.

According to an anonymous person named Johnny, the mother was not doing well.

She was bleeding excessively and experiencing a state of extreme distress.

Various nearby news sources have stated that she is one of the individuals who passed away.

I was approached by another customer who was still trembling with fear. She informed me that she had a close encounter with the perpetrator. He was seen wearing a jersey of the Australian national rugby league outside a Lululemon store. According to Huma Hussainy, the attacker was carrying a knife that was as long as her arm.

Two teenager girls were lying on the ground behind him. Ms Hussainy believes that they were surrounded by blood.

Ms. Hussainy recalls witnessing a woman attempting to awaken one of them, yet the adolescent female was unresponsive.

Ms. Hussainy and Mohamad Naveed claim that they are suffering from emotional distress.

Ms Hussainy quickly sprang into action and took her partner with her to seek refuge in a changing room. They spent 45 long minutes there in utter fear, which intensified when they heard the sound of a gun being fired.

"I believed that this individual possessed not only a sharp blade but also a firearm."

However, the gunshot came from an individual police officer who had halted the murderer. It was reported that she shouted "drop it" before he made a sudden movement towards her, leading her to shoot.

A recording depicting the events that transpired after the incident displays her performing cardiopulmonary resuscitation on him.

There have been other instances of courage that witnesses have reported.

Rashdan Aqashah, an employee at the center, describes an incident in which a man uses a bollard to try and impede the attacker's progress.

I witnessed a man engaged in a struggle with a murderer. He grasped a stick and aimed it towards the moving staircase, as recounted by a 19-year-old individual in conversation with the BBC. This incident took place directly outside our establishment.

According to Mr Aqashah, he successfully guided his store clients to safety in a composed manner.

The assault caused a wave of surprise and concern throughout the country of Australia.

Australia hasn't experienced such a devastating event as the one that took place in 2017 at Bourke Street, where James Gargasoulas killed six individuals while driving his car through a crowded shopping area.

During a solemn speech to the nation, Prime Minister Anthony Albanese expressed that the situation was unimaginable and indescribable.

This was an awful act of aggression that was aimed without any discretion at the innocent bystanders who were simply running errands and shopping on a regular Saturday.

Earlier today, I went to the shopping centre with a friend for some retail therapy. We went to Westfield and left around 3:19 pm. According to the police, the stabbing incident started around 3:20 pm.

As I step out of the shopping centre, I come across a lady who was just about to enter when she noticed loud shrieks and people stampeding in terror.

The lady prefers to remain anonymous. However, we discuss how scary it is to have almost encountered an event like this.

"We reside right over there," her pal indicates towards apartments that are not more than 100 meters away. "We come here every day...it's really frightening."

"This is not something that occurs frequently in this place."
