"England's Lionesses Star Retires: 83 Caps, 16 Goals"

Rachel Daly, who helped England win the UEFA Women's EURO, has announced her retirement from international football. She had a successful career with the Lionesses for eight years and revealed her decision after her last game against the Republic of Ireland, where they won 2-0. Daly played in two World Cups and one UEFA EURO and earned 84 senior caps for England, scoring 16 goals. She played a significant role in the team's success under Sarina Wiegman, starting every game of the UEFA Women's EURO 2022 Final as a left wing-back. The team made history by winning the championship at Wembley. Daly was also a crucial member of the group that reached the FIFA Women's World Cup Final for the first time in Australia last year.

"I really wish to continue playing for England for an indefinite period, but it's time to retire from the international platform," Daly declared.

Although today is a challenging day for me, it's also a time of reflection and appreciation. Being a part of the England team has been the highlight of my career. Throughout my eight years as a Lioness, I've always aimed to be successful and win games while maintaining high standards of competitiveness, passion, and perseverance. Representing my family, teammates, and country has been a great honor for me. I have many unforgettable memories from my time with England that have been defining moments. Winning the EUROs and reaching the World Cup Final not only made me a better footballer but also a better person. I'm grateful that I was able to share these experiences with so many amazing people along the way.

Daly's Dream England Debut Comes To Life

Get insight from Rachel Daly as she reflects on her initial appearance for the England national team in 2016.

I have formed irreplaceable bonds of friendship that will endure for the rest of my life. I will always appreciate the chance I was given to represent England with boundless honor during my tenure of eight years.

I consider myself lucky to have contributed a bit to the Lionesses' historic journey. However, I think it's time to let the next generation take over and support England's team from the sidelines. Whilst I was with the squad, my involvement, character, and likability beyond the field had a significant impact on the Lionesses' success and the growth of women's and girls' football.

Sarina Wiegman, the coach of the England team, expressed her admiration for Rachel. She mentioned that Rachel played an essential role in the team's history and their success till now. Sarina also mentioned that she feels fortunate to have worked with Rachel.

I've never collaborated with a more adaptable participant. She consistently wears a grin, exudes vivacity, and strives to perform her utmost for the crew.

Outside of the field, she is constantly in the mood for a good laugh or pleasant discussion. Her presence will be dearly felt by not only myself, but also by the rest of the personnel, athletes, and especially the supporters.

It's unfortunate that she won't be a part of our team anymore, but let's honor her contributions and welcome her as our top supporter. I hope to see her in the audience rooting for us and inspiring us to achieve more victories.

According to Kay Cossington, who is the technical director of the FA women's team, expressing how Rachel has added value to the Lionesses is a daunting task. This is because Rachel's impact has been immense and invaluable to the English team in all aspects of the game. She is an exceptional person who has played a significant role both during matches and in other areas of the team's operations.

She has given her all in every single game, representing not just the team, but also the little girls who adore the sport. She mentioned that things will be quieter once she leaves, but I honestly believe that things won't feel the same without her. Her exceptional skills and charm will be greatly missed by her colleagues and peers.

"We will definitely honor her outstanding contribution to the Lionesses team at an appropriate moment."

Daly, who was hatched in Harrogate, kicked off her profession with her local team Leeds United and took her initial strides towards international recognition by traveling to New Zealand for the FIFA WU17 World Cup in 2008.

In 2010, she transferred to Lincoln Ladies and began playing in the WSL as a young athlete. However, it wasn't until she moved to the United States for college and started playing for the Houston Dash in the NWSL that she earned her way back onto the England team.

In 2016, she played her first game for the senior team and managed to score a goal against Serbia. Though it took some time, she eventually became a regular player due to her impressive performances in the NWSL. In 2019, she was selected to play for the squad in the 2019 FIFA Women’s World Cup in France, which was a significant moment for her. The team has plans to honor and express gratitude to Rachel for her contributions to the Lionesses, but the details about this tribute will be announced later.

We will always greet her with open arms when she returns to Wembley or St. George's Park. We wish her all the best as she continues her exceptional career in the national league.
