How Crystal Palace ended Manchester United's winning run with stoppage-time equaliser

Michael Olise scored a stunning late free-kick to halt Manchester United's winning run and help Crystal Palace rescue a 1-1 draw at Selhurst Park.

His left-footed effort curled over the wall before crashing in off the underside of the crossbar.

In a largely even Premier League encounter, clear-cut chances were few and far between, with each team spurning a few half chances in the opening period.

Luke Shaw saw an effort swerve across the face of goal before United debutant Wout Weghorst headed onto the roof of the net. Palace thought they'd scored when Jean-Phillipe Mateta sent a shot towards the top corner, but David De Gea pulled off a world-class save to keep the score level.

United took the lead minutes later, when Christian Eriksen was played in down the left and he cut the ball back for Bruno Fernandes in the box. The Portugal midfielder steadied himself and then curled a shot into the back of the net, sending United in ahead at half time.

In what was a fairly uneventful second half, Eberechi Eze scuffed a shot high and wide, before Marcus Rashford fired over from distance.

VAR denied the Red Devils a penalty after Scott McTominay was felled in the box, before Casemiro picked up his fifth yellow card of the season meaning he will miss Sunday's game at Arsenal.

The night could only get worse for United as Olise scored a wonderful free-kick in the last minute to secure a point for Palace.

Erik ten Hag was on course to become the first United boss since Sir Alex Ferguson in 2009 to win 10 games in a row, but that record crumbled in the end.

20/20 - Bruno Fernandes now has 20 goals both home and away in the Premier League, one of only four players to have scored 20+ goals both home and away since his debut in February 2020, along with Harry Kane, Mohamed Salah and Son Heung-Min. Vision. pic.twitter.com/NLglAYR1xE

United should be ahead!

It's not for Casemiro, it's for Christian Eriksen.

Zaha knocks the ball past Casemiro who flies into the tackle and is booked.

How big a moment could that be? Casemiro will now miss the Arsenal game on Sunday. Erik ten Hag shakes his head.

Fred has been preparing to come on - could it be for the 30-year-old?

Ayew misses a header and as United try to break Hughes slides in and takes out Eriksen cynically.

Easiest yellow that the referee will have to give this season.
