Police have apprehended a male individual who is believed to have stabbed a woman to death while she was pushing a baby carriage on a street in Bradford.

On Tuesday morning, Habibur Masum was taken into custody after the passing of Kulsuma Akter, 27, on Saturday.

Authorities have reported that they apprehended a male individual who is 25 years of age in Aylesbury, which is situated in Buckinghamshire.

Mr. Masum was apprehended after a nationwide search that was initiated following Ms. Akter's death during the city center assault. Fortunately, her baby was not harmed during the incident.

According to Det Ch Insp Stacey Atkinson from West Yorkshire Police, an arrest has been made in connection with a dreadful occurrence in which a mother lost her life in a very distressing way.

She further added that they are aware that it has caused a significant level of worry among the nearby residents.

Last Saturday in Bradford, Kulsuma Akter was the victim of a deadly assault.

On Saturday around 3:20 pm British Summer Time, Ms. Akter was assaulted while she was walking with her baby in a stroller along Westgate in the downtown area of Bradford.

The emergency services were contacted, however, Ms Akter was declared deceased at the place of the incident after a brief period.

Both Greater Manchester Police and the West Yorkshire force reported on Monday that they had taken the initiative to contact the Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC) regarding their past interactions with the victim.

Magistrates released Mr Masum on bail in November, following his denial of charges brought against him for allegedly assaulting and threatening to murder Ms Akter.

According to official papers, Mr Masum, who hails from Oldham, was accused of making threats to kill Ms Akter on 24 November and physically attacking her the day before, both incidents reportedly taking place in Manchester.

Authorities announced on Monday that they apprehended a 23-year-old male in Cheshire under suspicion of aiding a criminal. As per a spokesperson, he remains detained.

On Monday, the assistant pastor at Bradford Cathedral announced that both churches and mosques in the city have been made accessible for individuals to mourn and offer their prayers.

During the month of February, there was a report by Newsnight which stated that since the year 2019, nine females had lost their lives after making complaints about domestic violence to the authority of West Yorkshire.

Newsnight recently released new statistics on Monday that were obtained through an FOI request. These updated figures revealed that 18 women have lost their lives due to domestic abuse-related incidents after contacting West Yorkshire Police since 2018.

West Yorkshire Police stated that they have provided extra coaching to their officers on how to handle and respond to domestic violence.
