West Brom 1-1 Stoke: Lynden Gooch secures point for managerless Potters... but the Championship...

West Brom

There is uncertainty regarding which direction Stoke City will take with their new manager, but they headed to West Brom with the objective of proving a point, and they successfully achieved their goal.

The Potters, who are not doing well, travelled a short distance to play against the Baggies team, who are trying to get promoted, for their second game after firing Alex Neil.

In the match, the player playing in the position of right-back, Lynden Gooch, scored a goal in the 12th minute. He made a very good shot while crossing the ball which went over the goalkeeper of the opposing team called Baggies, Alex Palmer. The ball went into the corner on the far side of the field.

It was uncertain whether he intended it or not, but that was not important since Stoke was in the lead, much to the joy of their enthusiastic fans who were on the move.

The team led by Carlos Corberan managed to score a goal that was executed perfectly by Brandon Thomas-Asante in the 35th minute, which helped them match the score with their opponents. However, neither team was able to break the tie as Stoke demonstrated great determination to prevent Albion from scoring.

Lynden Gooch made sure that Stoke City left high-flying West Brom with a crucial point.

Stoke City is having a difficult time in the Championship and don't currently have a manager because they fired Alex Neil.

If it wasn't for Brandon Thomas-Asante's goal, they would have gotten all three points.

The West Brom player demonstrated his ability to finish by scoring the game-tying goal at the 35-minute mark.

Neil was fired following the loss against Sheffield Wednesday at home last weekend and the Stoke City team is now feeling the heat to make sure they make the right choice for their next appointment.

Many different names have been suggested for the role, such as Paul Heckingbottom, Nuno Espirito Santo, and Slavisa Jokanovic. However, the top contender seems to be Lee Carsley, who used to play for Stoke and has previously managed the England Under-21 team.

The players who took the field for West Brom in the recent game were Palmer, Furlong, Bartley, Kipre, and Townsend. Yokuslu and Mowatt played in the midfield, with Molumby coming on as a substitute in the 87th minute. Diangana was replaced by Fellows in the 72nd minute, while Sarmiento was substituted for Pipa with 77 minutes on the clock. Lastly, Thomas-Asante also played for West Brom.

Players left on the bench: Ajayi, Chalobah, Pieters, Reach, Griffiths, Taylor.

Reserved: Yokuslu, Bartley, Junior Players

Stoke's starting lineup consisted of Bonham, Hoever, McNally, Rose, Gooch, Thompson, Burger, Bae (who was replaced by Wesley in the 68th minute), Laurent, Johnson, and Mmaee (who was substituted for Vidigal in the 69th minute).

The following players did not participate in the game: Baker, Jojic, Tchamadeu, Clark, Leris, Lowe, Simkin.

Match official: Andrew Kitchen from Durham.

The Potters have experienced difficulty in their life after departing from the Premier League in 2018, where they stayed for a duration of 10 years.

For the past five years, there have been disappointing seasons in the Championship, with rankings of 16th, 15th, 14th, 14th, and 16th in each respective year.

A team that, during the leadership of Tony Pulis and later under Mark Hughes, caused major upsets for the top clubs in English football, is now associated with average performance and failure to meet expectations.

Stoke City Football Club has had quite a few changes in their managerial position since being relegated from the Premier League. Neil is the latest to have been replaced after Gary Rowett, Nathan Jones, and Michael O'Neill. The next manager to come in will mark the fifth one in total. It's safe to say that Neil didn't quite leave on good terms with the fans.

On Tuesday, Paul Gallagher was made the temporary leader for the game against Swansea at home. He created a positive and motivating performance at the Hawthorns.

The teams Sheffield Wednesday, Rotherham, and Huddersfield, who are also struggling in the league, gained points yesterday. Therefore, this match between Stoke and their derby rivals became even more significant for Stoke.

The Baggies are strong contenders for promotion and they tested their opponents thoroughly in the first half.

During the eighth minute of the game, Grady Diangana successfully overcame Stoke midfielder Wouter Burger and delivered a cross towards the far-end of the post. However, the volleyed shot from Jeremy Sarmiento failed to find its desired target and went over the crossbar.

Albion's impressive football strategy started to push Stoke towards their own goal but suddenly, in the 12th minute, the visitors managed to score a goal unexpectedly. This happened after the ball was passed to Gooch on the right-hand side of the field.

It seemed like he was aiming for the opposite goalpost, but unfortunately, his pass was overdone and ended up soaring over Palmer's head before landing in the top-left side of Albion's goal.

Stoke received a boost of self-assurance from that, which made them a threat on the counter-attack. This was evident when Burger passed to Ryan Mmaee, who aimed a low shot that bounced off and resulted in a corner.

However, Albion maintained their strong advantage and Potters' goalkeeper Jack Bonham put on an impressive display by blocking Sarimento's right-foot shot, which had been aimed to curl.

West Bromwich Albion kept pushing forward and got their reward just before half-time. Captain Jed Wallace made an excellent pass to set up Darnell Furlong, who was inside the penalty area.

Stoke is in dire need of making the right choice for their next manager appointment, but there is some good news.

He crossed the ball from the right-hand side near the end of the field and it traveled low on the ground. Okay Yokuslu received the ball but was unable to score, however, the ball bounced off his attempt and fell perfectly for Thomas-Asante. With great technique, Thomas-Asante kicked the ball from 12 yards out and it sailed into the net for an impressive goal.

In general, Albion had the advantage during the match. Then, at the 66th minute, Wallace took a powerful shot that seemed like it was going to land right in the top corner of the goal. However, Stoke's defender, Michael Rose, made an outstanding clearance using his head.

Rose made an excellent tackle to prevent Baggies' replacement Tom Fellows from scoring, seven minutes after he entered the away team's penalty box.

The captain of the Potter team, Josh Laurent, took a strong shot with his right foot from a distance of 18 yards. Cedric Kipre deflected the ball, resulting in a corner for their opponents.

Laurent had an opportunity with only eight minutes left on the clock, but unfortunately missed the target from a close range in the penalty area. He could have made a better effort with the attempt.

to climb up the league table and secure their spot in the top half of the standings. Stoke City is now looking forward to building on their determined performance at the Hawthorns to move up in the league rankings and secure their position in the upper half of the table.

In the 85th minute, Albion came very close to winning when Wallace sent a swinging pass that Thomas-Asante flicked towards the goal. However, Bonham was able to make an excellent save and prevent the ball from reaching the net.

Shortly after, Kyle Bartley, a defender for Albion, used a cross from Wallace to head the ball in at the far post. Unfortunately, Bartley was positioned in an offside location, resulting in the celebration at home coming to a rapid end.

Towards the end of the match, Bonham performed exceptionally well by blocking Pipa's shot using his left foot from a distance of 12 yards. The fans supporting the visiting team were very happy with how their team performed when the match ended.
