Baggies beat Bristol City to boost play-off hopes

West Brom

West Brom have not lost any of their last six matches.

West Brom, who are vying for a spot in the playoffs, secured a win against Bristol City at The Hawthorns thanks to goals from Tom Fellows and Jed Wallace.

The team managed by Carlos Corberan is currently placed in fifth position in the Championship league. At the moment, they have a comfortable lead of eight points ahead of Hull City, who are sitting in the seventh spot.

The guests tried hard to score in the final moments of the game and even hit the crossbar two times. However, they were unable to score a goal as a consolation.

After their fifth defeat in six games, City is currently in 14th position and they still face the possibility of relegation, as they are only eight points above the danger zone.

Before the halftime, Fellows successfully scored a goal which made the first half of the game seem less exciting.

The shot from the 20-year-old went into the bottom corner of Max O'Leary's net, but the goal was surrounded by argument.

The Robins made a complaint to cancel the goal, but O'Leary refused to consider it because he believed that one of the Albion players was blocking his view while standing in an offside position.

West Bromwich Albion scored a second goal early into the second half with a goal from Wallace, which was his first one since December.

Conor Townsend, the defender, laid the ball off for the winger at a short distance from the goal post, allowing the hosts to have a bit of a cushion.

After halftime, Liam Manning's team attempted to find a way to score in the game. However, the issues they've faced with scoring throughout the season continued to plague them.

Ross McCrorie and Mark Sykes weren't able to stay calm and direct their shots towards the goal. Taylor Gardner-Hickman attempted a shot from a distance shortly after, which led to a remarkable save by Alex Palmer.

Following the international hiatus, Bristol City will play against the leading team Leicester on Friday, March 29th. Meanwhile, on Good Friday, West Brom will travel to visit Millwall.

When speaking to BBC Radio WM, Carlos Corberan, the manager of West Brom, shared his thoughts.

Achieving consecutive victories is a wonderful feeling.

"Once the break is over, we will strive to regroup and emerge victorious in maximum number of matches."

Liam Manning, the manager of Bristol City, stated in an interview with BBC Radio Bristol:

The initial objective seems to have been scored from an offside position, resulting in a shift in the game's momentum.

We have to accept some blame for letting in a goal just before half-time, as there were mistakes that led to it.

It was challenging for us to handle the timing and way in which the goals were scored.

Other than that, there was not much to it. We maintained possession of the ball, constructed our plays effectively, and posed a danger when we attacked on the break.
